Deservedly so. He was probably ordered to do it, and he did a terrible job of it. One would think this will make things worse for him, but we all know that BB would now be saying "It's been addressed".
It almost felt like he was back tracking on the whole he get really false information, almost making it sound like the 2 psi was not that far off....did you get the same feeling?

I usually like Lebatard sorry to hear they didn't press that sh|t stain more.

What a terrible interview, Mort is a complete NFL shill. Still sticking with 11/12 significantly underinflated. But if he read the stupid Wells Report, footballs were on average either, in line with Ideal Gas Law if gauge was the one the ref thought he used, or 0.2 - 0.4 PSI under (not quite significant) with the other gauge.

Boy it seems to really bother him that people are giving him a hard time right now about not asking the hard questions and calling him a company man. LOL

Here's the problem:

The smart play there is saying something like

"There was a story about the footballs. I called multiple sources in the NFL offices, and they lied to me. That's the really story here: Multiple people in the NFL offices deliberately lied to me about the PSI of the footballs. I got burned by sources I thought I could trust. I won't out any sources, ever, but I'll never use those sources again, and I regret that I was used in this matter."

But that's probably something ESPN wanted no part of, given how close they are to the NFL, and they probably instructed Mort to go the other way with this. I know that I'm speculating, but that's really the only thing that makes any sense here.

You nailed it.

It's too bad reporters cannot be reporters any more. They are too starved for morsels of access, so they don't dare risk pissing off their crappy sources.

He could have played into the Ignorance of the IGL bit.

Originally I reported that the footballs were deflated but at the time no one had any real knowledge of the effects of the Ideal Gas Law and therefore the information wasn't that far off but after realizing the effects ......etc....etc...

Based on what posters are saying about this latest interview, it sounds possible that Mort still doesn't understand the IGL explanation for why the air pressure dropped and thus can't really comprehend the significance of his error. Presumably he still thinks that the controversy over his reporting is about the difference between 1 PSI and 2 PSI underinflated, and that it is just over how big of a cheater Brady is, rather than the difference between 0 PSI and 1 PSI underinflated, and that it is over whether or not Brady is a cheater. It would explain his insistence that the factual discrepancy was blown way out of proportion and that it was not the worst misinformation to come out in the weeks after the AFC Championship Game, and also his explanation that he doesn't really feel burned or misinformed by his sources because from his perspective the gist of the information was still correct.

That would only happen if he "got it" and realized anything. Like many, he STILL has no knowledge or even a basic understanding of the IGL. My 15 year old son does. But not Mort.

His answer about lying was telling, I thought. His defense, that they weren't lying because he called them, and not the other way around, was absurd. I don't think there's any way he'd be fool enough to make that argument if he wasn't under some pressure from above. If he made that argument on his own, he'd need to be drug tested, immediately.

mort has no spine.
i hope brady never speaks to him again or anyone from espn. no more sit down interviews..yes even with chris berman. **** that piece of **** network.

I'll bet he did call them first as he always does when he wants the inside track on any story. How does that make any difference? The numbers were wrong AND they were not corrected, ever. How does who called who change that?

I have an acquaintance who is a Colts fan. He even understands the basics of the ideal gas law by now. What does that leave him clinging to? This is the conversation:

Me: The balls lost pressure to the extent that they should have.

Him: The rule book says 12.5-13.5 psi. It doesn't say anything about temperature. Below 12.5 is cheating.

Me: Every game in the history of the NFL played in 45 degree weather or lower had footballs below 12.5. IGL.

Him: I know that. But the rule book says 12.5-13.5 psi. It doesn't say anything about temperature. Below 12.5 is cheating.

Me: But that makes no sense at all.

Him: I know that. But the rule book says 12.5-13.5 psi. It doesn't say anything about temperature. Below 12.5 is cheating.

It just goes nowhere. That's like arguing with Mort.

Didn't his sidekick Schefter just get chucked under the bus.. I am sure he said stuff the other day about miss information.

They just want an excuse for the 45-7 ass whuppin they can't accept that Luck is destined to be another Manning

But here's the kicker, and Florio's got it, so I'll quote him:

Still, he was given false information. And even though he at some point changed the report to “significantly underinflated,” Mortensen told WEEI in January that he sought further confirmation of the accuracy of the two-pounds-under report, and that he received it.

‘Listen,’ I said, ‘is there any discrepancies in what I reported, because I want to know,’” Mortensen said at the time. “And I was just told, ‘No, you were right on.’”

So they had a chance to correct the lie. Instead, they lied again. Mort could have, and should have, hammered that as his out. He had it all teed up. Instead, he's letting his long and generally excellent career be tarnished in order to protect liars and scumbags, both at the NFL offices and at the ESPN offices.

Tell him that he's an idiot, and that Luck is a cheater.
