A nine year old boy lost his hands today from an explosion involving a firework and lighter he found in a Dorchester park. Serious unannounced injuries to the five year old boy who was with him as well.

Fireworks are extremely dangerous to the uninformed.

does an lineman even need two hands?

Imagine how much grief his wife is giving him...

Still not feeling sorry for him :D

Agreed. If this were something like a neighbor's illegal fireworks hitting him in the hand and breaking it, I'd actually feel some sympathy for him. But this was essentially entirely self-inflicted.

Yeah, dude, it's explosive gunpowder that you set on fire.
Thx for psa

Hope he's alright. Sounds pretty painful.

Idiot...when will people learn that fireworks are a dangerous thing to use if not handled properly? A young kid (22) died in Calais, Maine yesterday after shooting fireworks off of his head...
I read that in the Herald. It's a shame, it was one of the stupidest things I have ever heard but still very sad to see a young man lose his life over a drunken bad decision.

Pierre Paul was the guy hazing Prince Amukamara a few years ago. I kinda hope Amukamara offers him a "high five" when they show up to camp later this month.

About 20 children drown in buckets each year.

Hey did you hear of the Texan who went swimming with an eleven foot
gator?Guess who won that one.

Well that's just natural selection at work.

Sources familiar with the situation tell us JPP suffered bad injuries to some of his fingers and his thumb.

Sounds like from some he could lose a lot of his hand from this...

I always found fireworks a huge unnecessary risk, a lot to lose just to see some lights, when you hold it in your hands of course. Everyone know someone or have heard some story about someone geting injured manipulating fireworks. I'm not familiar with the assembling process but I believe it's not rare to get a bad badge.

I'm ok with special events like new years eve, etc...but in these cases there's no human contact direct with the gunpowder.

Also, dogs suffer a lot with the noise. I live in a place where people blow fireworks every weekend celebrating soccer goals.

I'll mention again -- you are lighting gunpowder on fire so that it explodes.
Best not to have it in your hand, down your pants, or by your head unless you are elmer j fudd or wile e coyote

Now how many died due to drinking?

I read a stat the other day that it's usually about 400 drunk driving deaths over the weekend. Don't quote me. Another thing people need to understand.
