Would love to see the NFL batted around in court. Rest assured that we'll get batted around in court too.
Seems what we need is a Wells Report on the "integrity" of officiating in the NFL, not to mention the practices of leaking from the league offices, etc. etc. etc., and we expect the result of a court battle to reliably deliver that product. Meh. Maybe it will. Maybe Brady "clears his name" by fighting.
What's strange to me is that during cameragate so much of the board just didn't really give a damn. They ended up being right; we just had to brush it off in the end.
Now we're following along the sports media narrative acting like the victims of events... "I will PROUDLY and ANGRILY stop watching the Pats etc."... based on various media accounts, which have been shown to be partial at best.
Kraft went on national TV and gave up on fighting the league. I'm not thrilled. But haven't we all seen this movie before?
I don't get the internalizing of the other guy's narrative around here. "We'll be forever branded as cheaters."
Really? Will this ever be more than the location of the camera, which nobody was concealing, and a guy who preferred the low end of a PSI range + the weather, in terms of the final analysis - the reality?
If so, why are these both enormous penalties for first offenses regarding the rule in question?
Why are they both "rules" complained about by another team? Oh that's right, that's how we judge "competitive balance." That's the mechanism: let losers go after winners off the field.
Here's the right way to do it: Announce your weird petty rule. Announce your procedure to enforce the rule. Put that procedure in place, for every team. Then there won't be nothin.'
There is never a systemic follow-up -- it is a system arranged to "take shots" at whoever is most hated in the league.
As to how this could affect their crap franchises, they'll cross that bridge if they ever come to it. Most SB winners except the Pats are flashes in the pan. The closest you see to the Pat's success lately is the Steelers and the Giants... oddly enough, that's not where these allegations are coming from.
Okay done for now on this angle of it.
