Well, I guess you can say 'good bye' to Roger Goodell getting fired now...

Because it's looking as though it ain't gonna happen anytime soon

In order to pull it off, Kraft has to convince the owners that Goodell's leadership isn't good the for the League. And without the support of big-name owners like Synder, Mara, and Jerry Jones, it'd be nearly impossible for him to lose his job. Case in point:

Tim MacMahon ‏@espn_macmahon 6m6 minutes ago
Jerry Jones on Roger Goodell: "He's doing a great job, and I'm a supporter of his." Added "fairness" is one of commissiner's strengths.

What is it gonna take to get the dictator removed?

This guy was all over the place like he was the god damn face of the league before ray rice happened.

He's been a ghost ever since.

Jerry and everyone else (except hopefully Bob Kraft) will seem to be all nice-nice until the votes are all in place to topple the czar.

OTOH what happened to the Patriots can happen to them as well.. consider the next time San Diego gets caught doing something to compromise the integrity of the game or Minnesota will they face the same music?? Or how about the Saints they are potentially repeat offenders as well...

How do you think they would feel if the alleged fair hair child, Kraft, had this happen what could happen to those who fall in an out of favor with the commissioner???..

These penalties happened to one of his faves...

" Added "fairness" is one of commissiner's strengths."

LOL Jerry Jones knows Kraft is going to go right for the antitrust and that's why he added that.

"Despite overwhelming owner support, Roger Goodell has decided that he needs to spend more time with his family..."

And don't kid yourself, because Jerry knows damned well about Goodell's "fairness", since he experienced it right along with Daniel Snyder.

Goodell isn't at much risk unless he winds up losing an embarrassing court case directly to Kraft and the Patriots.

Losing court cases to players obviously doesn't hurt his job security much.

Well I guess this is just good neighbor policy, the truth is that Goodell is doing no good for the NFL, one more scandal and he is toast.

This time is against the Patriots so all the other owners will support, everybody wants to weaken the Patriots. Anyway if this goes bad in a federal court he is toast, nobody wants a incompetent running their business, even if they are making good money, no business is fail proof, they will find another guy who will make the same amount of money without being incompetent and a public clown.

Disappointing. I can understand not saying anything negative, but saying positive stuff like he did is deflating to me, pun intended.

I would have thought Jerry would have learned his lesson about this buffoon in 2011 after the cap space debacle. Sounds like Jerry might be as much of a schmuck that Kraft was up to 3 days ago.

The only way Roger is going to go is to hit the NFL in the pocketbook. I think most owners relish having Goodell be the fall guy for everything, takes the heat off of them.

Jerry knows as well as anyone exactly how "fair" Goodell is. He saw it in 2010, but he has no incentive at all to comment publicly against Goodell right now. Maybe Goodell does have his support, maybe not. But even if he does, we'll see if that remains the case when the league's staring down the barrel of a lawsuit that threatens its antitrust exemption.

At this point an owner saying "I support Goodell" is code for saying
"Oh my God I hope Brady and Kraft don't take that buffoon to court and cost me billions"

Funny, Jerry didn't think he was fair when Goodell punished him and Daniel Snyder for spending like crazy uncapped year.

“I don’t want to make our case here,” Jones added. “But all of our contracts were approved by the league and you can’t approve a contract that is in violation of league rules. You can’t even get it on the books if it isn’t in sync with league rules. So you start there.”

“There were a lot of things rather than Cowboys cap room that I would have rather leveraged the players union to give the NFL,” Jones said. “There are many things we would have liked to have had that we bargained in the collective bargaining agreement that if you got some leverage you wanted to gain apart from docking the Cowboys $10 million. I can answer that easily.”

Not really trashing Goodell, but he was clearly upset with Goodell's rulling and didn't think it was fair.

I don't necessarily think Goodell is on his way out, but a quote from JJ doesn't mean jack. How many times have you seen an owner say they fully back their head coach or GM then two days later fire him? Happens almost every year, in almost every sport.

We'll never know what's happening on the phones, behind the scenes. They may ALL be in Goodell's corner, petulant, jealous little billionaires that they are...but I doubt it, it took a lot from Kraft to get their backing of Goodell in the first place. If Kraft is able to detail how Goodell has grabbed too much power for himself and has done a horrific job with damage control, that other owners could find themselves at the mercy of Goodell who does nothing but looks at public sentiment to make his rulings, he might change some minds.

The owners meetings are coming at an interesting time next week, that's for sure.

I'm a big Kraft supporter but he was in a position to get this idiot ****canned and decided to stand by him which was a terrible mistake.

Now Goodell gets to wipe the stain of the past year off of himself (you know, minor things like a woman getting the **** beat out of her) by pitting himself against the one thing that people hate more than Goodell: Us.

Indeed. the question is whether Jerry's words are sincere or just the famous "vote of confidence".

I'm sure Jerry thinks the de facto 28 game suspension of Hardy (or whatever it was) was really fair following a new personal conduct policy dictating 6 games.

Is he just scared of Goodell now? Have we gone from a reign of incompetence to a reign of incompetence and terror?

Well owners that might secretly talking to hold a no confidence vote and remove Goodell from power aren't going to come out and say it. In fact it would be the opposite. If i'm goodell i'm wary of Jerry Jones of all people throwing praise my way right now.

In fact I bet the owners that want goodell gone were very happy with this because Kraft wouldn't do it but now that goodell has pissed of Kraft they might see this as the best opportunity they are going to get.

One thing that we can hope is happening is that fellow owners are calling Kraft and asking him not to make waves.

That would give Kraft a chance to explain to them why he is.

I'm not assuming this is happening but I would think Kraft threatening behind gets owners to call and convince him not to sue which then Kraft responds "So then I have your vote of no confidence?"
