Schefter: Has Heard Speculation Colts might have deflated the footballs

Point out the evidence that proves the Colts deflated the ball, Inspector Clousseau.

Deflategate is not the love child of Red Grange and Aphrodite.

Prove that it's not possible, Barney Fife.

Yup. Which makes anyone trying to convict either side look very petty. Unfortunately, many Pats fans are all to happy to fall into the same trap the media did and then use the excuse 'that's what THEY did!!!!'. Freaking 6 year old logic.
That makes sense....OR, given the climate, another way to look at it is, "turnabout is fair play" ;)

And here's the thing…are they allowed to do that? No one seems to be saying anything about whether they were allowed to check the balls even if they just innocently believed there was a problem. Shouldn't they HAVE to take it to the referee? Is that what they did? Does anyone want to shed some actual light on this because I can't believe that would even be allowed. What a joke.
Rule 2, which governs the ball, says

"The Referee shall be the sole judge as to whether all balls offered for play comply with these specifications."

and

"In case of rain or a wet, muddy or slippery field, a playable ball shall be used at the request of the offensive team's center."

It makes no other reference to anyone having a call on the condition of the ball on the field. Anyone other than the Referee or the Patriots center making a determination of the playability of the ball would be a violation of Rule 2.

I'm a professional journalist myself in addition to being a Pats fan, and I was furious about the original misreporting of DeflateGate, which was unethical even by the low standards of the business. But JJD is right, this Colts speculation is just as bad. I heard the Schefter interview and he very much hedged his statement about the theory of the Colts possibly deflating a ball. He certainly didn't "report" it; he responded to a theory posed to him by Boston radio hosts. And the theory involved one football, not "footballs."

There are certainly some things to speculate about here, but it hasn't even been concretely reported that the one football that was 2PSI under was the D'Qwell interception ball (even the "fact" that only one football was 2 psi under comes from unnamed sources via Rapoport). The only reporting about the lone severely deflated ball being the one the Colts had relies upon an unnamed source, just like Chris Mortensen's report.

Obviously people can believe what they want, but I would hope Patriots fans take the moral high ground here and wait until a named source reports some verifiable information before we all jump to conclusions about the Colts or Ravens or whoever.

Much Respect, Brother Don. Much Respect.

Great Argument.

But in the words of Mister Pink...

**** on all of that.

The vile, verminous, and gutless Colts at the very least tried to disgrace us for ~ let me check the Tote Sheet ~ absolutely nothing. Only pathetic scum do what they did. So, in a word: phuck them.

It looks like a concern troll has arrived to make sure that the Colts get a fair shake. Too bad he never showed up when the Pats were getting crucified by the NFL and mediots. Perhaps he should send a letter of support to Irsay and Grigson.

On a purely side note, I think your sig needs another add:

The Atlanta Decibelers (Atlanta Audiologists? Atlanta Sound Enhancers?) You pick...

Atlanta Sound Machine

They touched it.

GUILTY AS CHARGED

Damn, Where did I leave my pitchfork? I can never find itt when I really need it.

Some people here believe that Tom Brady was the love child of Red Grange and the goddess Aphrodite.

That claim has the same amount of evidence to support it as does the Colts intentionally deflating balls.

Not true. There is no evidence Red and Aphrodite were ever together.

The Colts and the deflated football, now that's another story altogether........

Just sayin'........

Actually........Just some people sayin'........

Is Schefter "acting like an idiot?"

No, he's reporting what he's heard. Not making speculations on what the Colts did and calling for punishments before a single thing has been proven, like a handful of the yahoos here.

Good one. Now you sound like Jerry Rice 'Oh, it just dawned on me......'

You had every opportunity to comment on this website and any others regarding the unprecedented mudslinging at the Patriots that had not one ounce (yet) of confirmed facts.

Your answer above is laughable and one sided. Are you are WWE Referee?

The people making the speculations on the Patriots deflating balls don't post here. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with people who will never even see my response. The people making ridiculous, unfounded claims about the Colts guilt post right here. That's who I'm addressing.

Deflategate is not the love child of Red Grange and Aphrodite.

Prove that it's not possible, Barney Fife.

Well thought out response. Good luck proving the Colts did something wrong from behind your keyboard.

Are you saying we won't be able to impose real sanctions on the Colts when we find them guilty?

Boy, the troll is really sensitive about people accusing his beloved Colts. Hopefully, the same rules of punishment without facts that Goodell was willing to apply to the Pats also applies to the Colts. Although I doubt punishing the Colts fits what Goodell wants.

It all comes down to this:

IF (if) the NFL finds the no evidence that the Patriots tampered with those footballs, they better NOT STOP AT THAT POINT.

IF (if) 10 of those 11 footballs were within 1.0 PSi of regs and the one produced by the Colts from the Pizza Bully's interception is 2.0 under (hence, outlier), then they better NOT stop the investigation at that border and say "Move along, there's nothing to see here"..

If they are going to scrutinize the Patriots, they should scrutinize ALL parties involved.

I agree that no one should be pre-judged before the facts come out, but If JJDChe feels that is something to dimly look upon, then that is his problem.

If someone is repeatedly punching you in the groin for two weeks, you should not be expected to stick to the Marquis de Queensberry rules.

The ball from the Colts that allegedly is the outlier 2 psi down is the dog that didn't bark type of evidence. Assuming this is really the case, I would hope that Kraft insists that the league run to completion on their investigation.

Trouble is...can we trust any of the leaks from the league office (or are they all/mostly from Irsay et. al.?) as having valid information? I say not.

Actually JJDchE has been a good fan and poster for a long time he's just being overly sensitive on this one imo. He isn't a troll by any means.

Agree, they need to investigate the entire episode, not just the Patriots.

That said, the Colts did it. Guilty as charged.
