If he cheated after the spygate crap? That makes him not only an actual cheater (we can probably agree spygate wasn't actually cheating) but it makes him a ****ing idiot. Especially to cheat against a team that has been our ***** for a while now.
Get a grip.

Like the warmer air inside a football or a burrito eating football fan, this too shall pass.

I want the stink of 'cheating' off of my team. I was so happy last night and now I'm just....(get your groans ready) deflated.

I'm afraid that the "stink" will only be removed when we are no longer relevant. Success breed hate, hate breed lunacy, lunacy begets these goofy "-gate" conspiracies. It is so ingrained that it has become almost a reflexive reaction when a team "loses" to the Pats nowadays. Last week, it was illegal formations, this week it deflated balls. Next week (2 weeks actually), if we manage to beat the mighty Seahawks, it'll be something else.

It's a byproduct of success. I'd rather deal with the negative juju it brings then to go back to the 70's and 80's when no one gave a crap about us cuz we sucked.

We had a spy go into the lockeroom and remove their Steroids oh I meant skittles.

Everybody feasts on this story, including Patriot fans. The media knows this, knows that even Pats fans are going to be looking for the latest news about it, blogging about it, tweeting about it, so the media does its job. Ironically, we are part of the problem.

You are so right. Which is why I'm turning off the computer now. God, you are so right.

Belichick needs to go in front of a camera and laugh and call people idiots. And talk about the cold and what it does to footballs and how the NFL checks the balls. Laugh again and mention Aaron Rodgers and his over inflated balls.
Say something snarky like no wonder he throws the best deep ball in the game I knew it had to be something. What deflated balls? No just you pansy reporters next question.
One can dream.

Gotta wonder how this would even happen.

Balls are tested before the game, and then they are handled by the refs until after the game ends. It's not like the Hamburgalar snuck in and deflated the balls mid game.

But the guy who handed the yellow-vested guy the ball to hand to the refs (and who was carrying a bag of balls) was wearing Patriots attire.
Don't let the haters deter you. You keep on fighting the good fight and pretend that NFL officials didn't have custody of the balls for 5+ hours.

If this is true then I want Belichick gone. As a fan I'm beyond done with having to deal with this constant spectre of 'cheating' looming over our team. I don't care what players do off the field - I let that one go ages ago - but I do care about what happens on the field and don't want to root for a team that cheats.

But none of this makes sense to me. First off - why do you cheat? To gain an advantage but there's a risk/reward aspect. Why would you risk this blowing up in your face to beat a team you have manhandled constantly? If we were going to deflate balls we'd do it against Baltimore a team that has humiliated us at home during the playoffs.

Furthermore:

So in order to deflate these balls someone would have to do some Oceans 11 **** with the NFL ball attendant and switch them out with deflated ones or deflate them while he's distracted like Elmer Fudd when Bugs Bunny dresses in drag.

None of this makes sense and honestly, I'm really ****ing tired of this **** hanging over our team. Even if it isn't true I think the Patriots need to go on the PR offensive and hire some auditing firm to look over their shoulder for the next few years and provide transparency.

You need thicker skin buddy, or be a fan of some team other than the evil cheatriots. We are in the business of winning football games, not of winning hearts and minds.

Brandon (Cincinnati)

Tedy, Love your chats! What do you make of the report of the Patriots using under inflated footballs in last evening's game? To me, it's getting a little bit old. And for a player, it has to be as well that every time you win a big game you're accused of cheating.

You're exactly right, Brandon. It does get old. Coaches complaining they weren't ready for formations. I've heard it all. There is a long line of people who want to find some excuse for how the Patriots have had success for so long, and the bottom line is that it's good coaching coaching and good players.

That's not true, refs don't carry the balls around, they have personnel for that. Now, I am not sure if those guys are NFL or team employees, but the refs definitely aren't hauling bags of balls around on the field.

There is nothing to substantiate that anything untoward was done. You are convicting and hanging him without even an allegation.

Can we have a FAQ for this or something? The ball attendant is an NFL employee.

Really Bizarre post from a guy who is usually one of the sanest posters on this site. Belichick has never cheated and the idea he was monitoring the football's and tampering with them is so far from sane it isn't worth discussing. Allowing the haters to define the patriots and Belichick is absurd and getting rid of him because of the warped perceptions of idiots is ******ed.

This supposed story has absolutely no credibility and the idea Belichick was involved with the status of the football's is ridiculous.

You're correct - I shouldn't speculate and from what I'm reading here it sounds like this really couldn't have happened.

But I'm not drawing any conclusions

I'm just saying if the the Pats DID DO something illegal to give themselves an advantage, given the history, that's going to be bad

And trust me it is
Illegal? Do you think people will go to jail over this? Is an under inflated football now a "crime" against society. Should it be likened to assault, theft and rape?

It would be a rule violation in a football game. Let's try to keep things in perspective here. You sound like one of the moron troll posters from PFT. You're better than that, Joe.;)

Here is how this will end up. It is common that footballs are removed from the game, more common in cold and wet conditions. This was done in this game and was routine. Nothing wrong occurred, but the some reporter (who is a moron) thought it was a unique thing that a ball was removed. It's not, and the weather will be docked a draft choice for being the cause.

The only investigation the league needs to do is on the crime scene that was left at Foxboro after the Pats murdered the Colts. Bloody pony parts everywhere! ;)

As a Pats fan, knowing that purposefully deflating balls happens (USC got fined for it a couple years ago), that it is particularly helpful in bad weather, and that the NFL has confirmed its investigating, I am betting we did it. Given Belichick's long history of pushing the edges of the rulebook, I highly doubt a couple balls just happened to get deflated in terrible weather.
