Highly respect your posts on football but this non-football speculation made me wonder why informed and knowlegable fans like you feel the need to speculate so badly about us just like the haters.

If you think I am overreacting, just read your line: ..."if the Pats somehow go the ball to the sideline, deflated it for when Brady had the ball - and Luck had a fully inflated one. Then #$@% - that's bad .."

Suggestion: maybe hold off such dramatic speculation of us being such lowly villains - or typing about it here - until the facts come out?

Thanks,

You're correct - I shouldn't speculate and from what I'm reading here it sounds like this really couldn't have happened.

But I'm not drawing any conclusions

I'm just saying if the the Pats DID DO something illegal to give themselves an advantage, given the history, that's going to be bad

And trust me it is

1) By these the rules, the referee is not obligated to check if a ball is suitable at any particular time before, during, or after game. What the rules state is that balls that do not fit the specification must be replaced for ones that are, and if that fails, the best possible ball available is used. Instances where a ball is chosen for another must be reported to the NFL as part of a normal process.

2) However, the referees most definitely have a list of best practices they must follow before every game where they do in fact check a few, if not all, the balls prior to the game, and then throughout the game if a player appears to have a sincere complaint.

3) Interestingly enough, the kicking balls are sealed in the box and shipped directly to the referee and must be opened at exactly 2:15 before the game start. Since the game was delayed by 10 minutes due to an unexpected overtime NFC game, the referees already "screwed up" by opening the balls at 2:25 before the game started. :) Presumably, they are inflated at this point since balls are shipped slightly (if not completely) deflated.

4) There is an allowance for +/- 0.5 oz in weight if the game balls were weighted to be 14.5 oz indoors. The problem is, any value from 14 to 15oz can be fine at one point in the day, but leather absorbs water and a 15oz ball will become invalid as soon as rain touches it, never mind soaking in the rain and rolling in wet turf. Even a 14oz ball may weigh more than 15oz by the time it has soaked up water.

5) Replacing balls, reporting such discrepancies to the NFL, and investigating the report are all normal parts of every game unless the league finds otherwise in the coming days or weeks.

6) The game balls must be official NFL balls with specific size, weight, shape, color, and inflation. However, here are some creative ways to push this rule:

- Use official balls from 10-30 years ago, which may be different from the current game ball. Even if they're physically practically the same, the NFL logo might be the old one and this would give the visiting team less confidence. Even better, make each of your game balls different in some way.

- Polish up the leather in a unique way such that the gloves your team wears stick to them easily, and/or make it harder for your opponents to catch or throw with regular gloves.

- Write messages to the opposing team on the ball. Why should Goodell's signature be the only writing there?

Time to remove the Patriots from the SB and replace them with the Colts if this is proven accurate. Anything less will be an unacceptable punishment.

Comment on PFT. How are these people functioning in society?
Probably a Dolts fan whos trailer fell off the blocks due to his meltdown after the loss.

I am sure someone has mentioned this.

The Pats filed the tampering charge against Woody and all of a sudden there is an "NFL investigation" because the footballs used in the AFCCG were "deflated." Coincidence or cause? Who called for the investigation?

Like someone said in this thread - Kraft has to come down on this like a ton of bricks.

What the **** is this crap. We win against indy and now the cheating crap comes out again.

W T F
I have to say back in 07 it seemed like the biggest trollers were dolts fans.

Sometimes I wonder if Robert Kraft and BB pissed in Goodell's corn flakes. Every win has some type of "Gate" attached to it.

Officials get the balls prior and it's their job to make sure they meet specifications of psi etc. And the team doesn't have access to said balls from then on.

That's how I understand.

So now the NFL "investigates". I'm just going pass on a lot of sports talk if this crap carries on till the Super Bowl. Gawd it is infuriating.

What exactly did they do to Blount's balls to make him so comfortable smashing the Indy defense?

Unbelievable. Way to try and damper a huge victory for us. It pisses me off. This is a day to feel great and now there is just a whole bunch of garbage to read about deflated balls.

This is a day to feel great, nothing has changed. You aren't one of the people making a big deal about this: rejoice in your rationality. When stupid people hate you, you've done something right.

Let the hate come. Embrace it. Remember how the Pats reacted to Spygate? That's right. They went into FU mode. The only problem was that they went into FU mode too early. The one team that is regretting this news is breaking now is Seattle. Some seabirds are about to get destroyed in the ultimate FU game.
Until Spector and Tomase ruined the day with bad karma

Time to break this baby out again?

I have to ask this - did Patriots players throw any balls into the stands? Those crafty bastards were getting rid of evidence! Kravitz was right.:)

When the NFL comes back after the testing and offers the result that the Pats' footballs were in fact Nerf balls with the glide assist, and we learn Brady was never able to throw a real football over 15 yards, this is gonna blow big time.

Stupid story. The balls are in the custody of the attendant by rule and examined by refs prior to the game. If they were tampered with, not too hard with chain-of-custody practices to run that down. Take a non-issue, add a generic statement on rule violations for deliberate rule violations, and create a story when there is none.

So, the Patriots would have passed for 177 yards and run for 220 yards? Is this how it works?
Yeah; why didn't we do this before? Against the Ravens a couple of years ago, for instance.

But given the garbage you're spewing, why should we trust you?

Has anyone else wondered why the NFL just doesn't buy their own footballs and entrust one of their own employees with the job of inflating the balls to league/team spec, +/- ?

Since they would be buying so many balls they might even get a volume discount.

They are trying to save money. $17 billion per year doesn't go as far as it once did.

Kravitz is Indy's answer to Ron Borges. He wouldn't have any homer reason to break this story.

Rinse and repeat I'm sure Pagano is having a laugh about this. This has Irsays name written all over this.
