AFC Championship Game : Patriots vs. Colts -- Pre-Game Thread

Let's just call it like it is.

Easiest AFC Championship game ever.

All due respect to Luck (it's nice to like a Colts QB for a change), he isn't going to be enough.

When did we start deleting comments and altering threads on this message board without notification? Is this something that typically happens and my eyes have just been opened?

Almost every year there is one team that gets hot and goes to the Super Bowl when nobody expects them too. The Pats need to be focused and come out aggressive against the Colts and not let them stay close. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEM

no way we dont see him and a heavy dose of Blount Sunday against these guys.

Is he a free agent?
Even if he was, we'd never sign him (not until he was 37 years old).

just going with the "Transformer" theme vuudu was running with ;)

Anythng can happen in the playoffs. We've seen surprise teams end up in the super bowl before. Andrew luck yesterday was in the zone.

I generally don't like underestimating anyone in the AFCCG. That said, I think what you said about letting them stay close is the big key. Luck will take chances, especially if he is behind. Build a lead, and we'll run away with this one. If it's less than a touchdown lead in the 4th quarter, Luck is more dangerous than anyone else we could have faced in the AFC.

The Pats by eleven...no way is Tom and Bill letting another opportunity get by them. They both now know how hard it can be to reach this point.

Sure, but who can be confident a team that the Patriots have always blown out is finally going to beat us after last week? I don't think it's that ridiculous to recognize the Pats are a bad match up for an incomplete Colts team.

I can't think of any time a quarterback near single handedly defeated a Belichick team since he got here.

Every time we play them its a statement win. Cause to think its going down with a close W in the very least

I get being nervous, I get that anything can happen...but let's be honest, if the Pats had drawn the Colts in the Divisional Round, everyone here would've been ecstatic.

Can the Pats possibly lose? Of course they could. But I feel much, MUCH, more confident than I did last week.

I'm not booking my trip to Arizona yet, but at least I'll be able to spend the week somewhat worry free.

One thing that entered my mind on this matchup: I think a lot of people look at quarterbacks, especially young ones, and assume that they're going to be like Brady. Brady won his first 10 playoff games, won a SB in his first year as a starter, but that's a total aberration. Most QB's have to LOSE in the playoffs, often multiple times in similar ways, then exorcise those demons on their way to the first win.

Luck was never going to beat Brady and BB, or win a Super Bowl, until he exorcised the first demon: Peyton's legacy. He's following the franchise guy, and having beaten him last night, he has taken the first step to starting his own legacy. He's going to be more motivated, more loose, and more dangerous this Sunday than he's ever been when we've played him before. Will it make the difference? Who knows. But I'm not expecting the same type of game we've seen the last three. This could be another classic.

Really doesn't matter how many times we've blown them out. It's in the past. This game is this game. Go rewatch that 2010 Patriots vs Jet playoff game. Remember how we blew them out in the regular season?

Yup, anything can happen that goes without saying... But you won't convince me that this isn't the easiest possible matchup that you could have hoped for. The patriots are by far the better team. If they go out there and execute the colts will be powerless to stop it, period. People can be nervous and paranoid if they want, I'm fairly confident in my team and this match up.

I agree with you in general, that it's best not to underestimate this Colts team, but that isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison. The Jets were a divisional opponent who had shown a few times in those two years that they could beat us. The Colts under Luck so far haven't shown that yet at all.

NO!!!!
This is a dangerous team. If Luck doesn't give the ball away, they are a top offense.
Defensively, anyone who thinks we are just going to walk out on the field and run right down their throats for 200 yards, doesn't realize that Chuck Pagano is one hell of a defensive coach.
We need to throw the ball well, and we need to be good in the red zone on defense.
A comfortable win could happen, but it is far from guaranteed.
This is a good football team that has beaten good football teams.

Keyword -- so far. And this team has to keep it that way. Luck is tired of losing to us. He's gonna bring everything he's got and more.

"Tired of losing to us" and "bring everything he's got" are not factors.
None of the 92 players that will be on the field will bring less than they've got, or are OK with losing.

@jeffphowe: Tom Brady completed 22 of 22 passes for 209 yards and 3 TDs when he unloaded the ball within 2 seconds of the snap vs. the Ravens. Insane.

Does this aganst colts watch out

The Colts have better cover corners than the Ravens. If they play press man on the Pats, Brady won't have those quick outlets. That's where the run game could be huge. If we're gashing them on the ground, they're going to need those corners off just a little bit more.
