It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I would prefer to see him play at least one regular season game and get some reps. Tough year for the Jones in terms of injuries.I came across this tidbit from Richard Hill on Pats' Pulpit today:

The only thing I've been able to find is this from SMY on Twitter:

Maybe the smart thing to do, and not a surprise. But still, if true.
Its been addressed 3 years in a row with 1st and 3rd, then 7th then 6th rounders.DE needs to be addressed come draft time
I still see a need at DE. What does it matter if we used a 3rd round pick on a DE if that guy isn't even on the roster any more. If Dante Fowler from Florida is there when we pick in the first I think we should go for him. He would fit this DE/LB stuff that we are doing. Easley can do some of that as we have seen. But it's really not his best playstyle. I like him much more on the inside. Its been addressed 3 years in a row with 1st and 3rd, then 7th then 6th rounders.
Arguably it was addressed to some extent in the first round this year as well, depending on how Easley ultimately gets used.

The longer he is on the inactive list, the more hope of seeing him at some point. A problem arises if they have a few injuries (short-term hopefully) and the circumstances force them to place him on IR instead of releasing someone else.
It will be interesting too see what they do with Siliga. Not sure who would go (Branch maybe). They will likely wait until they have to make a decision. With Walker being released, they must feel like DT is well stocked.
No way Branch goes when Siliga comes back. It would have been Walker, except he was just released to make room for Blount. I'd look at the special team DBs or LBs.

There were reports from the get-go that he wouldn't be back until the postseason, or at the very earliest the end of the reg season. The optimists in us just didn't want to believe them.

The Patriots’ pass rush has been dealt a major blow just days before the team starts the toughest stretch of its season: according to a league source, defensive end Chandler Jones has a hip injury that will sideline him for about a month.
There is still more than 1/3 of the regular season yet to be played. Let Chandler return when he is healthy. After all we are 3-0 in the 6 game "Gauntlet" portion of the schedule without him.Not the ideal news, but still better than seeing the letters IR. Would have liked to see him get back the last couple games to get up to game speed but if he needs to extra rest so be it.
I'm just pointing out that the position has been addressed.I still see a need at DE. What does it matter if we used a 3rd round pick on a DE if that guy isn't even on the roster any more. The pass rush doesn't stink but I'm not sure how that disputes that we have addressed the issue 3 straight years in the draft. And the pass rush still stinks. The only difference this year is that we can actually cover downfield now unlike 2010-2012.
You are right about there being mixed reports, but not about the spread:
