....and is still debatable. Subject the 80's 49ers to today's flag football rules on defense and they put up 500 points a season easy.
No fair changing the rules of the game unless we change the rules of player acquisition too. Subject the 80's 49ers to free agency and that could change a lot of things too.

Honestly we would never know. They could practice more back then also. No salary cap and different free agency gives them advantages over today's NFL. Can't put different teams in different eras. Just have to compare them to their competition at that time

What we have to do is look at how they played in there eras. Ultimately it comes down to wins, win percentage and SB wins. If Tom wins a 4th SB; he passes montana in every category and ties him for SB wins. That's enough to be anointed GOAT by anyone.

No he is the top QB…

Seriously, Tom Brady is most likely the best player most of us will ever watch in our lifetimes, we are fortunate to witness his greatness and often take it for granted.

100% agree.

I must admit, I really had questions after the KC whether Brady would ever play elite again for a second. But then I realized we were talking about Tom ****ing Brady and knew he would destroy the Bengals

There will be a 1m plus 49ers fans in the Bay Area who will spend the rest of their lives debating that point.

Perhaps true but subject that same Niners roster to salary cap restrictions, and they might not have enough players on offense to score 250 points.

49ers flipped a big chunk of their roster from '81 to '89- specifically having only 4 players with all 4 rings. My general point was specific to the passing rules ad how Walsh/Montana/Rice/Craig/Rathman/Taylor/Jones could take advantage of them.

That means nothing with them flipping the roster. The NFL is entirely different from then and now. You can't guarantee a team would have success in another era. You JUST can't. They played in their respected area and you have to compare how they did against the elite competition at that time, wins, win percentage, post season wins and SB trophies. If Tom gets #4, he passes montana in all categories (actually has) and would tie Montana in SB wins. Brady would have more SB appearances than any QB ever. That would make him the undeniable GOAT

I agree they likely would have shredded every record in existence .... if they all were on the roster to do so. ;)

To counter you argument, why is TB GoAT if he played in a different era than Montana? Passing stats?

The 49ers would have found a way to keep Montana and Rice together.

Yank Brady for a rookie when he's playing poorly have the rookie go in drive the ball down field. Get loads of questions about about him declining. And then he steps up and plays lights out. Not bad for a guy on the decline.

Several clones of Danny Amendola.
After I lit a #80 jersey on fire in my psychiatrists office a few weeks ago we came up with a coping skill. My shrink told me "Brady6 why don't you just think of Amendola as a KR instead of a WR". ****ing brilliant I can finally sleep through the night.

It would probably be also fair to consider how advancements in training, scouting, medicine, and technology have impacted the competition level. Player are bigger, stronger, and faster now, the game is subject to replay, and game plans are advanced.

On the topic of Garopollo if we wanted to trade him (which I doubt) we could probably net a first round pick for him in the offseason.
Don't start this lol. Won't be long before Garopollo is being traded for Gerald McCoy.

Best QB in the league. I'll choose him over Manning, Rodgers, Brees anytime anyday his competitive nature and heart is the best I've ever seen in any proffesional sport from football to soccer. Be ashamed if you doubted him early on to me he looks even better than in his physical prime
