The `It's Friday And I'm Totally Over Miami` Thread.

I think that we see that cohesion much more this week, and that it carries into our home opener next week as well. Yes, conservative, reserved, and shy Dan is looking ahead already ;)

I hope you are right. I can see getting beat in Miami but being that disjointed and out of place made them look like they were still in Pre-Season mode. This team is clearly a work in progress and they need to start making that progress now.

Even with that mind-clearing interlude, I'm realistic about the Pats. A second half offensive production of seven drives ending in punts, fumbles, and turning it over on downs suggests serious problems. It's going to be hard to win a game scoring zero second half points. I hope I'm wrong and they figure out how to at least kick a couple of field goals or something, but for now I'm braced for an 0-2 start. This did not look like a team that is ready to win on the road.
I really think the second half was about the heat. I don't care what can be said about heat indexes, but 90 and humid (100 heat index) is a much different monster than the same in New England. Maybe it is the sun angle. The patriots looked like toast to me. The big boys especially.

In training camp, guys like Wilfork were fast walking when they should have been jogging - a lot of players followed his lead. They were not fit enough for that game.

Playing in a dome, they won't wilt.

On the other hand, the team identity for the Vikings is AP. I don't think they will rally like Baltimore over a mediocre player. AP is the Vikings. They lost their heart and soul for this game. I think they are in for a blowout.

i am looking forward to this game. I think we will come out strong and win this one solid.

uh...it think the line has moved to -5.5 Supa...better check

just checked..Caesars has it Pats -6 now
Oddly, that makes me a little more apprehensive.

Many expected that the 2nd year jump of many young players combined with the return of Gronk, Vince and Mayo and the addition of Revis, (Browner), Wright and LaFell would strengthen a team that went to the AFC Championship game last year. Some uncertainty seeped in when we traded Mankins, and in game 1 we witnessed massive breakdowns on both sides of the ball and especially in the trenches where it matters most. The front 7 was utterly helpless against zone blocking schemes of a team that nobody expected to be a rushing powerhouse, prompting lengthy debates about defensive schemes, whether players are being used to best advantage, offensive playcalling, and whether we simply lack talent. Vellano, Wendell, Devey, LaFell et al. have received lots of criticism even though Jones, Collins, Mayo, Vollmer, Solder and Amendola all disappointed.

So now we come to game 2 against another team that was penciled in as a W. If The Vikings run effectively (despite the fortunate absence of AP) and pressure Brady, we will be unable to dismiss last week's meltdown as a fluke. If Cassel beats LBs in coverage and beats his mentor, we will find ourselves in an early hole and disappointment will spread like a bad virus. If we come out and protect Brady, run effectively, and improve the run fits enough force difficult passing downs, we will breathe a giant sigh of relief and quickly return to our early off-season Superbowl optimism. The possibilities are many and the consequences are significant.

I feel a lot better about this one now that Peterson is out. The way our DL got pushed around last week, I wasn't sure how the Pats were going to contain him outside of absolutely loading the box. Defensively, I want to see a return to the 4-3. I don't want to see Chandler Jones two gapping or Ninkovich in coverage. I want to see those corners pressing their WR. We have Revis now. Where are the overload blitzes? Where's the Cover-1 robber? Offensively, I just hope to God that they have the staff on hand to get the OL figured out and do it this week.

I am waiting for the sigh of relief with a win. Better yet, a convincing win. I am waiting for the second half we should have played last week... for everything to click back into place... hell, even for some decent throws outside the numbers and downfield for Brady, to sober up Football Outsiders and their adherents. It'll be interesting to watch a team that showed different shades of feces across many units (OLine play, Brady especially taking the brunt) last week.

The question is whether they just stunk up the joint, or whether they just stink. For the moment, at least. I suspect I'll be pretty late jumping on the "Brady has declined [to the point that you think about replacing him] bandwagon." Some guys are already there.

Looking forward to a just plain bounceback game that makes everybody step back from the ledge. Might get it, might not.

I hope the players and coaches don't get over it.

If we have a trouble with a Peterson less Vikings team then we might have some serious issues with this team.
