I'm sure within the next 30 minutes, we'll see the headline "Patriots have Browns playbook" on PFT with the writer being the ambulance chaser Mike Florio.
As I mentioned above I don't buy the story but let me try and play devil's advocate here:Let's for a moment assume that what Pettine's saying is 100% true. Let's assume that Rex Ryan gave a copy of his playbook to Nick Saban.
If that's true, then so what? If you give your playback away (like candy, in Pettine's words) then there's a good chance that other teams are going to end up with it. That's your own damn fault, and even in this hypothetical scenario, the Patriots wouldn't have done anything wrong.
All of that said, I don't believe this story at all. Sounds like Pettine is just trying to make headlines with random conjecture.
I just got a copy of the Jets' playbook. It is reprinted in its entrety below:
"First Down: Quarteback (Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Tajh Boyd, or David Garrard - take your pick) calls play in huddle from wristband. Nick Mangold snaps the ball. Quarterback drops back. Quarter back gets confused look on face. Quarterback rolls left. Quarterback rolls up into little ball and gets sacked.
Second Down: Repeat First Down.
Third Down: Repeat Second Down.
Fourth Down: Punt."
During change of possession, Coach Ryan complains to referees that Patriots are "pushing."
32 NFL teams have the Jets playbook
1st down: Run
2nd down: Run
3rd down: Throw INT
4th down: If failed to successfully throw INT on 3rd down, then punt
