Would make some amount of sense, could be used in a Wilfork role as the big DT in 4 man base or NT in 3-4 (with Jones in a 2pt stance as the 4th man) front like we showed a few times against Miami.

This trade (if it happens) is as exciting as the Talib trade last season. Sopoaga is exactly what New England needs to improve the run defense.

Yep, and he's a very good run stopper. DT made the most sense. Still hoping for Nicks in the next 17 minutes but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I hope this happens. Any DT help would be huge. He did his job well in San Fran. Haven't seen him much with the Eagles this year though.

Scouting report for those unfamiliar with the ex-Niner:

Sopoaga is a strong, athletic run-stuffer. He has good size and quickness and some ability to rush the passer. At 6'2", 330 pounds, Sopoaga has the powerful frame and natural leverage to occupy double-teams and push the pocket.

He's exactly the kind of guy the run defense needs. Great trade.

More and more I hear it, the better I feel. Helping out the run defense is imperative. I guess the Pats have faith that our passing game will work out the kinks.

Big DT, drafted by SF in 2004. Played for them until this year when he signed with Philly. Has played at least 14 games every year, not counting this one, obviously. Does not have a career INT but does have 9 PD.
