On the black and gold New Orlean Saints forum, a fan stated the following after the game, " Well this game told me that the Patriots defense rivals Seattle, as we got man handled and physically dominated for the entire game. I also feel like with all due respect to Darrelle Revis, the two best cornerbacks in the league play in Boston and Seattle until proven other wise, and that NE's defense can shut down ANYBODY with the way the cover, hit and flatout bully people at every single phase. Not just Talib, all across the board they are just nasty and mean and play like their life depends on it".. This made me grin and filled my head up to the point where I feel invincible thoughts from anyone?

For a defense playing without some major pieces, color me impressed. Both run and pass. Perfect? No. But the team seems to have the right attitude when it counts.

Talib is the real deal. Dennard can play as well. There have been mistakes to be sure, but the defense is looking far better than it has in the past 8 years in my opinion.

probably overstated sans the talib praise but this is still the best defense since 2006, which is a pretty monumental feat

Theres a bit of truth and exaggeration in that fans statement.

Most fans think the grass the greener on the other side.

there was a play in the first quarter where a saint player could have laid one of ours out after a run, and they pulled up and let them slide clean.

Never would have happened two years ago.

Great game by the saints.

Lets not understate the Saints defense either. They got great pressure on Brady all day. That was a war and I'm glad it was at the Razor. Only way they win on a neutral field is if this team is at full health.

The only thing the pats are missing are those dedicated 3rd down elite rushes. Jones is good but not yet great and the DT's battled hard. If we had Kelly Wilfork and Armstead healthy i could entrain talk of pats being a top D.

Really proud of the entire defense today and shout out to Jones and Vellano 2 rookie UDFA's putting in work.

For me the best part of this win was the fact that the Saints are GOOD. Really good.

We don't know the extent of Talib's injury, heck we don't even know whats up with Kelly

Depending on what happens with Talib and Kelly will either make or break this defense.

I give credit to the 2 youngsters Jones and Vellano who have played as well as they can in Wilfork's absence but we will see just how long they can do a good job in clogging the middle, especially when the weather gets cold and teams start to run the ball a bit more.

Injuries are the biggest danger to this defense right now...with Kelly and Talib healthy its a top 10 defense but not exactly near Seattle's class yet.

I would say if this defense ends up in the top 10 by the end of the season then it might be the biggest surprise of this season.

Exactly.

People can't lose sight of that. New Orleans is a legit Super Bowl contender in the NFC. The Patriots went toe-to-toe with them in a very physical playoff-type game. Both teams wanted this one badly.

The defense had Brees heavily flustered. Even that touchdown pass to Stills was a low percentage throw. The man-to-man coverage in the secondary is the best I've seen in a while. That's been the key to everything.

Pray that Talib is okay.

I will give it to you offensively .And even there I think brees is more like jump ball QB. Not still sold on their Defense. If our oline wasnt a sieve today we couldve had our way with them.We had 6 pts in the 2nd half vs them until the last 10 seconds but a lot was our undoing.

Imo, our secondary is helping our D-line a lot. The coverage has been above average, especially McCourty's side. I predict DMc will make the probowl.

He was right saying us and seahawk's defense are good, but forget about the chief's
Brandon Flowers and Eric Berry said hi, maybe one of the best duo DBs in the league right now, that division is going to be a dog fight between Andy Reid's team and the donkeys.

First team to score 20 points off them this year, granted they've played the Falcons, Bucs, Cards, Dolphins and Bears

The Chiefs D is playing head and shoulders above any other defensive unit this season. They have no weakness in any level. It's one of the reasons I couldn't understand their 2012 record given the talent.

Regarding the Patriots D, it's nice to have some encouraging words for this collection of players. It's been a lean time given want versus expectation.

I think that is exaggerated. We are great when our guys are healthy but we already lost Wilfork and subsequently our next three most important guys have all gone down w/injuries which we don't know the extent of. I'm confident that Kelley and Talib will be back in the near future. Mayo? Not so sure. That will be a real sucky loss and the defense will lose a step. If neither Talib or Mayo got hurt I'd be more agreeable to this thread but it is not so.

Bad coaching and a lack of leadership. They always had the talent just no stability in the two most important spots: QB/HC.

Agreed, their D is the best in football. I don't know how clearer to be about it other than that. Only the Seahawks (at home) compare to them. They travel well on defense, unlike Seattle.

Now that he's over his ACL tear, Eric Berry is the best all around safety in the NFL right now. Their pass rush and edge rushers are unbelievably dominant. Their LBs and CBs can all cover and tackle. Dontari Poe is a freaking monster as a run stuffer.

If I was QB I'd be pissing myself at thought of going up against those guys. If they keep playing like this, they're the last team I'd want the Patriots to play when the playoffs roll around especially at Arrowhead (the game today was so loud I could barely hear the announcers). The Chiefs D scares me.

We are 1 game behind the Broncos/Chiefs. The Broncos O is better and the Chiefs D is better, and we are balanced. I wouldn't automatically say any of these 3 teams wind up as the top seed. It's still about the division but lots of things are undetermined...it's week 6.

It's a nice quote and all; but I dont put a lot of weight to it.

I give great KUDOS to the D; they played OUT OF THEIR MINDS -- TEAM D. THIS WAS THE REAL NO NAME DEFENSE (by the 4Q). (no mayo, no wilfork, no kelly, no talib) But still the opponent didnt do everything they could to take advantage of them either.

For all of SP's rep and the talk of SP-DB combination being deadly; their O IN-game planning seemed suspect.
-- They took forever to react to Talib going down by trying to go to graham again (after Graham gets hurt, THEN they were trying to go to him).

-- With 2 rookie DTs in the center of the line; NO didnt try to move the ball on the ground too much to take advantage of that; UNTIL it was 4Q and time to run the clock and everybody in the stadium saw the runs coming a mile away.
