Great news.

Four years is perfect. Brady should still be at the top of his game through that period. In 2014, they can re-evaluate. That's a four-year extension on top of 2010, so it's another five years. Nice.

Hopefully the Patriots can load up for another run with Brady. A bunch of young offensive skill players and a bunch of draft picks to restock the front seven next year.

Interesting to see if the Patriots follow with anything with Mankins, or less likely Moss.

My guess is this was planned all along. Give the story to the national media (Not that anyone loves Peter King) but this was a big F U to the local news sources. What bigger stage could you have announced this on?

Now, it will be interesting to see the structure of the deal. How much is guaranteed? My guess close to 55 million will be guaranteed. Also interesting -- how much is signing bonus? How did they get past the 30% increase in salary rule given TB's paid 6.5 million dollars in this last year of his present contract.

As for Randy Moss, I don't think much will happen anytime soon. If Moss plays well, my sense is they may offer him a 2 year contract.

Does the 30% rule apply when you sign guys to entirely new contracts? I thought it only applied to annual raises within a contract.

I think it only applies to this uncapped year, it definately doesnt apply to a new contract with Brady, they can give him 100 million next year if they want, its this year that has the restrictions.
