My take on this year's draft is the Patriots will trade down at any price from the #7 position and hopefully pick up another second round draft pick. Cason should be available in the second half of the first round. It sounds like you watched alot of Tennessee State games this year. Or maybe you've seen this guy in the Senior Bowl and at the combine and think you know more than people who have been watching him for years. (Where's the roll eyes smiley when you need it?)
I'd rather have the more versatile, coachable Cason, who will come at a better value than Cromartie.
Since when is speed and athleticism what it takes to be a Belichick corner? Samuel is hardly the fastest or most athletic guy in the NFL. Ty Law was never a speed-burner. What Patriots corners are is smart, instinctual, coachable, and versatile. Raw corners like Cromartie often go the way of the aforementioned Woolfolk, a similar athletic talent who's now out of the league 4 years after his draft date.
As for "my guy," that'd be Quentin Groves. I don't think any of these corners deserve a #7 pick. If Cason is available at the end of the 2nd, he's good value there. Same goes for Cromartie (who I said I'd love if the Patriots still had #31 and he was available, but I think he's going to undeservedly go higher). But at #7? I don't want any of them. Not with the Patriots having plenty of success with defensive backs in the middle rounds.

but I'm telling you, the Saints at #10 will not let Cromartie past that pick.

i watched Cason when he was a junior and considering coming out in that draft but ended up staying for his senior season. Never been overly impressed by him, hes a solid corner but i dont think he would have nearly the impact that Cromartie would have. I think he would make a top tier #2 corner in the league, no so much a shutdown #1 CB. I would love to have Cro at #1 and Cason at #2 though, shift Hobbs down to slot guys and #3s.
I agree 100%. I'm really warming up to the idea of Cason as a Patriot from everything I have seen and read.To be honest, he sounds much more like a Belichick player than Cromartie.
It looks like they're going to have Asante Samuel within the next couple of days, so I'm not too sure about that. But I agree with you in principle, I'd take a long look at him in the mid-to-late first round range BUT I also think a team will fall in love with the guy's measurables and take him before he should be taken.
Well you guys play a very man-centric kind of DB play - look at Mike McKenzie, he's a physical player at the line, and can run with receivers.
McKelvin is that kind of player,
DRC strikes me as less of a physical player, but a much better cover corner..
I really like both, but if i was the Saints, i'd be targeting McKelvin
Can't knock his character. I just don't think he's talented enough to merit a high 1st round pick.
Me either. This is where the loss of the late 1st rounder really hurts. Alot of good defensive backs available at the end of round 1.
