Rodgers-Cromartie (Senior Bowl and 07 @ TSU)

The pats only select him at 7 if he is the next, Law, Bailey, no Samuel doesn't belong in that class.

It sounds like you watched alot of Tennessee State games this year. Or maybe you've seen this guy in the Senior Bowl and at the combine and think you know more than people who have been watching him for years. (Where's the roll eyes smiley when you need it?)

I'd rather have the more versatile, coachable Cason, who will come at a better value than Cromartie.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. My take on this year's draft is the Patriots will trade down at any price from the #7 position and hopefully pick up another second round draft pick. Cason should be available in the second half of the first round.

Since when is speed and athleticism what it takes to be a Belichick corner? Samuel is hardly the fastest or most athletic guy in the NFL. Ty Law was never a speed-burner. What Patriots corners are is smart, instinctual, coachable, and versatile. Raw corners like Cromartie often go the way of the aforementioned Woolfolk, a similar athletic talent who's now out of the league 4 years after his draft date.

As for "my guy," that'd be Quentin Groves. I don't think any of these corners deserve a #7 pick. If Cason is available at the end of the 2nd, he's good value there. Same goes for Cromartie (who I said I'd love if the Patriots still had #31 and he was available, but I think he's going to undeservedly go higher). But at #7? I don't want any of them. Not with the Patriots having plenty of success with defensive backs in the middle rounds.

I am agreeing with you, look primetime, one of the 3 studs is going to fall to us at #7, if as espected, Matt Ryan goes in the top 5. One of those players might be one of the following (Ellis, Gholston, Dorsey or McFadden). Personally if one of the first 3 of these 4 guys are there (Ellis, Vernon or Dorsey), BB should take him, if it's McFadden, start working the phones and load up on picks and trade down and hope RoCro is still there in the 14-20 window, but I'm telling you, the Saints at #10 will not let Cromartie past that pick.

i watched Cason when he was a junior and considering coming out in that draft but ended up staying for his senior season. Never been overly impressed by him, hes a solid corner but i dont think he would have nearly the impact that Cromartie would have. I think he would make a top tier #2 corner in the league, no so much a shutdown #1 CB. I would love to have Cro at #1 and Cason at #2 though, shift Hobbs down to slot guys and #3s.

It looks like they're going to have Asante Samuel within the next couple of days, so I'm not too sure about that. But I agree with you in principle, I'd take a long look at him in the mid-to-late first round range BUT I also think a team will fall in love with the guy's measurables and take him before he should be taken.

I really like Gholston at 7. But, if we can get that extra 2. I think that's a good idea. We could get our cb early. 3 guys had impressive combines and were highly thought of coming into the combine; M.Jenkins,L.McKelvin and Rodgers-Cromartie. Hopefully, that guy starts and we sign T.Law to mentor him and be our nickel back.

I can't believe C.Avril ran a 4.51. Would love to get a couple of lb's in Round 2 if we follow your scenario like him and maybe a guy like Lofton from OU or Goff from Vandy.

Gives us a lot of flexibility with our 3rd rounders. Can go Offense if we choose. Or we can get another cb at the top of round 3. Then go for offense later.

Antoine Cason has been a starter at a major school from his freshmen season on. McAlister went to the same school, and many believe Cason is a better prospect. I have a hard time with your saying "Never been overly impressed", and I question if you a) haven't watched him all that much, or b) just want to talk up your guy (Cromartie). Cason's been a consistent performer, who only allowed 23 receptions out of 73 targets, posted a 3.35 yards per pass attempt, and scored 4 total TD's his senior season. Really, he has a very good overall game, and he's the type of guy you should like for the Patriots. He sure impressed the hell out of me when I watched him takeover their game against Oregon.

At times it can be hard to take some of your opinions concerning these players seriously. See, you seem to just fixate on "your guys", and will say anything (including trashing other players and posters) for no apparent reason. You did the same thing last year, when you constantly started calling Michael Griffin a "scrub" if someone had NE selecting him, and you generally call those who disagree with you "Neanderthals"...

To be honest, he sounds much more like a Belichick player than Cromartie.
I agree 100%. I'm really warming up to the idea of Cason as a Patriot from everything I have seen and read.
I doubt the Pats were impressed when Cromartie was taken aback by their asking him to draw a defensive coverage and drew a cover 2 because "it was easy".

Just seen a bit of a quote about the Saints and their DB play, anyone agree with it?

Well you guys play a very man-centric kind of DB play - look at Mike McKenzie, he's a physical player at the line, and can run with receivers.

McKelvin is that kind of player,

DRC strikes me as less of a physical player, but a much better cover corner..

I really like both, but if i was the Saints, i'd be targeting McKelvin

Here's a bit from Cason at the Combine (courtesy of Football Outsiders):

Me and my friend, Matthew Brooks, back at Arizona started a foundation called Cason Cares. My grandfather (Royce Rambo) died of leukemia, MDS (myelodsplastic syndrome), in February of ‘07. And he was a role model to me. He’s done everything for the family. My senior year I wanted to do something to honor him for what he’s done for me and my family. And I sold the bracelets, $3 apiece at Arizona, and all the money went to the American Cancer Society. Mathew and I raised about $7,000 in two months just between the two of us.

Can't knock his character. I just don't think he's talented enough to merit a high 1st round pick.

Me either. This is where the loss of the late 1st rounder really hurts. Alot of good defensive backs available at the end of round 1.

That's why I'm really hoping they trade down. My draft board is starting to come together, and having a mid-first, mid-second, late second, early third, and late third would be extremely good right now. There should be a lot of "Patriots" talent available in that 14-45 range, and I think the third round could have some nice DB's, LB's, and RB's.
