Pats cut Colvin, Lua

This really makes NO Freaking sense to me whatsoever......I did not think he had suffered a career ending injury here.....the guy is only 31 isn't he? Couldn't we have gotten something for him in a trade at the least? Here we are gunning for an eggshell in Zach Thomas who is one hit away from the end of his career......and we CUT Rosy Colvin.....unless I am missing something about Colvin's health......I say this move is idiotic and will come back to bite us.........BB must have something in the works......or has lost his mind!

I second this...........our pass rush took a MAJOR blow once colvin went down......................and it was always fun watching him get in Phillip River's unbalanced head....I will definately miss that....My favorite colvin moment was the "unintentional" spiking of the ball on the colts logo at mid field this past year.

i think they did not trade him because they will try to resign him and no one would have trade it for him cause they know he had to be cut hes cap number is to big i hope they resign him but i think the jets or colts will throw big money at him

The Colvin cap hike this year was the writing on the wall... some were talking about last year being major make-or-break for him last summer.

That said, Calvin Pace. Regardless of Calvin Pace Calvin Pace, Calvin Pace could Calvin Pace Calvin Pace Calvin Pace. In the short term, Calvin Pace Calvin Pace, while longer term Calvin Pace, and of course Calvin Pace.

Calvin Pace,

If there were a resigning to be had between Colvin and the Patriots, they would have simply done an extension. Nice and easy. No muss, no fuss.

Obviously, the Patriots and Colvin weren't on the same page regarding his value going forward.

A few here said we may cut Colvin so it's not really out of the blue. I'd imagine we'd try to resign him no? If not then AD may just get more productive outside.

That's what I see happening... AD takes over Colvin's role of being the main pass rushing LB. On the Giants' last drive, AD was getting major pressure on Eli for almost every snap. I just don't know what we're going to do for ILB? Sign Dan Morgan, draft an ILB in the early rounds I hope.

It wont surprise me to move Vravel inside. He can handle it, and he knows what he is doing. Really gonna be interesting to see how they fill the other two holes. I wonder what FA they'll pick up?

Would love to get Suggs, but would rather have a groves or Gholston, some Ravens fans around here question his love for the game and heart.
That said I agree with the Calvin Pace threads, was just reading about him on some Cardinal boards they seem to think the Jags and Jet's will compete for his services.
Hopefully we leapfrog both those clubs and Win him over.

So, what are you saying????

More accurately: serious enough that they didn't expect him to be able to contribute enough to hold a roster spot for him.

Right. A lot of people on the board think it was just about the money. The injury had a lot more to do with it. Why pay a guy that much if he's going to miss camp, probably get a slow start if not on PUP, then leave as a FA the next year. Give the money to someone younger who can be signed a year early.

Colvin and Lua were injured, didn't come back well enough, and now the patriots don't want them. It really is that simple.

Does anyone think they will re-sign Colvin? Maybe later?? OR do you think they'll be takers for him esp with his foot injury??

I had an idea about Colvin..that made sense with the high slaray cap number. Lua? I guess they did not see him in a good light.

why did the cut lua? makes no sense.

Well, I think if you move Vrabel back inside you are crazy. The ONE year we leave him alone on the outside he makes the pro bowl. He didnt always get sacks in mop up time....he won the Washington game by HIMSELF! We have a 2 man rotation inside with Bruschi/Thomas/Seau and draft Gholston....we can pick up a couple guys that get cast off in similar salary cut manuvers(Foote?). I am sure in Indy(Colvins home town)they met with him to try and redo his contract and he balked. The Pats said something like "you are hurt, take x money or test the market yourself" I am sure they were just talking about a minor cap hit, but I think it was just like Z.Thomas...they are kinda getting used to players taking less money to play here. My problem with this is the timing, I think they could have waited til 6/1 to do this(and see about his injury then). It wouldnt surprise me to get him back though.

We were just damn lucky to get what we got out of Colvin. When he went down in his second game with the Pats, odds were that he would never play again. Given his signing bonus, that would have been a complete disaster from a cap standpoint. Nightmare scenario.

As it turned out, we didn't get much out of him (a complete missed year and another year before he was particularly effective), but at least we didn't get a goose-egg from a big free agent signing.

Yup...he never became what he could have become in this defense after the hip injury. That injury changed the way he played for ever after. Check out his early days in Chicago against recent Pats games and you'll be reminded of what he could have been for us...really is too bad.

You do remember that Lua was on the IR? Many players are cut from the IR before the first day of the new season. Otherwise the team could be responsible for another year's salary. Lua was not making the team last year. Obviously in the mind of the team, he hasn't progressed enough to keep him on the team.

why did the cut lua? makes no sense.

Why wouldn't they trade Rosie, rather than just cutting him.

Because he was in the last year of his contract. From a cap perspective, it made no difference. And they weren't likely to get much for him.

Look at his cap number.

Well.......really interested to see how we're going to handle the LB issue now...Had to change by avatar and everything......Can't believe Colvin is gone...Ughhh oh well the only way i'd feel better is if we got Jason Taylor but that's about as likely as Ron Paul being elected president.:bricks:

i would like to think that BB has something in the works, because as of right now we got Vrabel and Thomas, so yes he must be up to something, and only good can come out of it.
