Patriots' division rivals haven't gained much ground
A year ago, it appeared that AFC East rivals might have bridged the gap between themselves and the Patriots.
The New York Jets added cornerbacks Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromarite and Buster Skrine, along with wide receiver Brandon Marshall. In Miami, the Dolphins brought in defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, receiver Kenny Stills and tight end Jordan Cameron. Then in Buffalo, it was running back LeSean McCoy, receiver Percy Harvin, tight end Charles Clay and guard Richie Incognito.
The narrative was short-lived, of course. NFL games are not won in March, and although the Jets improved to 10-6, both the Bills (8-8) and Dolphins (6-10) finished at the bottom of the division once again. With three weeks before training camp opens up (July 28 for the Patriots) the 2016 offseason was much more low key for the Patriots’ division rivals. If anything, the teams around the Patriots might have taken a few steps backward.
