Blount Re-Signs with Patriots

I am curious who people want to cut at RB/FB and how many you want to carry.

Lewis is the #1 lock of course.
Bolden backs up everything and is a STs key cog.
White showed very well last year. People forgot he good he played in the 2nd half. He looked better than Vereen did here and he is cheap for 2 more years. Also with the injury history of Lewis do you want to let him walk?

Develin is a possible cut but Josh McDaniels loves fullbacks so i don't see it and he allows the Pats to do some interesting things.

Not counting blunt which of these guys do you want to cut and which do you actually see being cut?

White did well but your are kidding yourself if you think he is better than Vereen.

Ummm..is he wrong? What exactly did Blount do last year? Or ANY year outside of a random game here or there and the Colts games? Last year he wasn't seen largely until the 3rd or 4th quarter or not at all. I'm all aboard with the signing, but Lewis is coming off an ACL and can't be counted on to be there when it matters. Therefore the "well Lewis is our running back" theory doesn't work. Neither does the "quick passing game" is our running game argument.

Therefore the giddiness I'm seeing here is mind boggling. He's good camp fodder or at best a garbage time back, but he was so slow to the hole last year. That's improves a year later? Good lord. Substitute Arian Foster name and then I'd expect the reaction I've seen here. They better pick up a stud 3 down back in the draft.

2 playoff games versus the Colts:

54 rushes 314 yards, 7 TDs

Blount is a good back, he has been solid ever since he arrived (then left and came back) in NE. Good move, figured it was coming once Gaffney got cut.

...but vs all other playoff opponents he hasn't done much.

Blount is fine but he is by no means an answer to the team's problems running the football consistently. The o-line also shares in that blame.

Not sure who is available right that is a better option than Blount. I don't think the RB situation is worse today than yesterday. I don't expect this move to do much to change draft strategy.

I think this team is more equipped to play a game with this roster than any other team in the NFL.
Eddie Lacy?

He ran for over 700 yards last year, which is not terrible for a team that had a running back by committee approach and a pass happy offense. With more touches he would have easily gotten 1000 yards.

When it mattered most, nothing. I could go back through game threads and then b*tchfests about Blount and his evident lack of burst and inability to get a yard when it mattered.

All I'm saying is I'd see basically good, see how is is in camp. Instead it feels like they just signed Jim Brown. That's all.

The RB corps is better today than it was yesterday. Maybe not a whole lot better but at least a little better.

But would he be available in a trade? McCarthy hasn't been singing his praises too much

He apparently has lost a ton of weight. Pictures seem to indicate it. I'd say it's his last chance in GB.

Brown can do everything White can do but is a better runner, though that's really not saying much.

Assuming Lewis, Blount, Brown and hopefully a rookie make it. That would likely leave Bolden, Devlin or another Fb, a 2nd rookie, White and anybody else battling for one spot.

Eddie Lacy is on good shape after following the new diet program the staff on GB made for him.

No sure? They weren't happy with his weight but hes since slimmed down.

Jonas Gray rushed for 200 against the Colts and so far that's his entire career. Blount is good against bad defense's but does next to nothing against good ones, that could change with aa good two TE offense but they still shouldn't count on it and should draft a quality running back.

A large segment of the fan base was saying this last year and he certainly had a better 2nd half to the year than Vereen.

White has decent hands and can pass protect but is a horrible running back. I didn't rate Vereen too highly when he was here (absent the masterful Super Bowl performance). If a rookie is drafted high, I'd expect White to get sent to the curb before any of Lewis, Blount, or Bolden. It would be nice to have a third running back who can play all three downs to take pressure off Lewis and Blount, but White's not a bad second receiving back by any means. Brown may be that guy, but he sucks and can obviously be upgraded from.

You just don't want to have the situation the Patriots did last year, where you have to call up a 33 year old tortoise because White's somehow worse than he is at taking handoffs.

Going into the draft with a full stable of playable running backs is a good place to be. It obviates the need to grab a running back early, when waiting to draft one is usually in a team's best interests.

Brown and White. Brown sucks and White can't run the ball.

OK but I don't think he is a better player
