Is it me, or does this Celtics team remind me of the 2001 Patriots?

I think the Celtics are playing hard and over achieving, but in the NBA you are very unlikely to see a Cinderella story happen like a team with no superstar win the NBA championship. Different sports and sooner or later talent wins out in seven game playoff series.
Nailed it.

Love watching this Celics team, but it's impossible to win a title as a Cinderella in the NBA

That gift's going to be giving for at least the next 3 years...

Can you imagine. Potential 1st this year, Durant, Horford, Thomas, plus not having to give up any assets you don't want to? Yes I believe Durant comes here. Too much smoke and his personality is perfect for this team. Big 4.

Priceless.

Winning one game like the SB isn't the same as winning a 7 game series....or 3 series in a row

Honestly it's probably just you

You're welcome.

Heh!! Yeah, I'm actually paying as much attention to the Nets as to the Celtics, these days!!

What makes them most similar is the addition of a historic talent coming onto the team as the HC and making a palpable impact on the performance of the team, far beyond the raw talent of the individual players. Turning a marginal team into a contender.

Ainge deserves a lot of credit, but Stevens is the real deal. The guy is a brilliant coach.

While listening to the local mediots having multiple orgasms about the win over GS thought it was a lot of stuff blown out of proportion, they were claiming that because of this win Kevin Durant will be part of this team and how much this win defined them, how great Stevens is..

I like this version of the Celtics, but the game has changed into a superstar league.. not sure one win means all that much in the big scheme of things..

The Patriots in 2001 were not a superstar team...

Eh, don't really see the comparison but, this team is a blast. We need to start a movement this offseason and bombard Boston stars like Brady, Edelman, and Gronk to help recruit Durant. Does anybody have any connections?

I had the pleasure of seeing Dr J play a game for the Nets on LI on the same day that I saw an Islanders game. It was the early 70's but I'm not sure which year exactly.

ya.....cuz they need to get younger
In Trader Danny's hands you never know what he'll do but they are pretty good leverage....along with what 5 second rounders.???? Hello D League....

The list of talented players who'll be talked about is going to be relatively long. Six that we've already heard about are:

Okafor
Butler
Russell
Cousins
Durant (free agency)
Horford (free agency)

It may not amount to anything in the end, but this is a good year to have enough so-called 'assets' to deal for players with issues.

It's also looking like a good year for the draft with that 7 foot tall 3 point shooting kid petitioning to come out, along with others. I mean "good" relatively speaking - maybe they're all busts - but at the very least in a year when the Celts have multiple picks, it's a good thing when there's more prospects

By my way of thinking it's the big bodies that you bring in via free agency - a Kevin Garnett who of course needed to see the Ray Allen move come to be before he was willing to make the jump

NO doubt Ainge has the ammunition but as you say, nothing may come of it - and that's not Ainge's fault nor is everything under his control

So still a very high need for that Celtics leprechaun to work it's magic

And geeze, how many do they have including the 2nds round?

People may have their hopes up but seeing as they could draft half the roster in terms of numbers, I expect you'll see a few developmental players drafted, likely from overseas, who are sent back to Europe to further develop

Stevens and Danny are in the top 5 of their respective jobs in the NBA.

At the beginning of the 2013-14 year the Celtics and Sixers were in the same boat, 20 win teams with future assets.. Fast forward three years. The Celtics are headed to their second playoffs, likely a high seed and are a team on the rise with a coach players want to play for and the Sixers are headed to the one of the worst NBA seasons ever....and GM who just quit...

Yeah we have waaaaay too many picks. 7 total I believe, 4 in the 2nd round. Need to make some trades. I'm praying for a Clippers disaster in the playoffs and then maybe Doc will be dumb enough to trade Blake. Blake in Stevens offense with those handles and that passing .

Danny is a very, very smart man. I think he has a decent eye for talent and he is shrewd - which is a required trait to have in this business.

Celtics are lucky to have him running the team.

Basketball is also the least flukiest sport. The flukiest thing that can happen is a team going nuts from 3 and that's still just one game. And a turnover in basketball is not like a couple bad fumbles or something. You might have a turnover or two but, it's nowhere near as bad as giving up a bad goal in hockey or one blown assignment in football.
