This just in .... 50,000 Jets fans petitioning the NFL for an honorary Super Bowl trophy.

No matter how many signatures, these petitions rarely ever accomplish anything

Read the guys post above yours again.

And yes I do believe the situation has become part of the national conscience with regards certain media outlets.
I wouldn't mock the guy for starting this either.. that's too easy, I'd like to buy him a drink though to say thankyou.

What I hope this guy achieves most out of this is some sort of supporter's group. Someone that can be that voice of the fans and can connect with the Patriots office, as I have spoken about what happened to my Tottenham FC and its supporters trust. It takes time, it won't be an overnight thing.

You could have 5 million but it will not outweigh the 31... it is the way the NFL world works.

50,000 would do something. Not sure what that would be but it would definitely attract attention at some level.

This sounds as if the petition is simply one piece of a larger strategy, in which case I appreciate it even more. Thanks.

I respectfully disagree! This topic was NOT in the news when we started this campaign and in that time, we've worked hard to connectewith many high profile media types over the last few weeks, pushing the story of the complaint and reasoning the NFL needs to give back the picks. This is about strength in numbers, sending a message and it IS being heard...as evident by a call I received yesterday from Foxboro, which, shall we say, was nothing less than an rousing, appreciative endorsement for the effort. There is other 'stuff' that is going on behind the scenes that is off the record, but we are definitely being heard by at least some of the national sports media elite!

Some folks in Patriots Nation are right, legally, this may not go far, but it's definitely been instrumental in elevating the conversation the last 3 weeks and now, the returning of the picks is a national topic. (Don't underestimate the momentum we've gained and the work done behind the scenes to get in the ear of some influential sources). Jerry Thornton's article hit the nail on the head! Yes, this is a Hail Mary, but it's more about sending a message, loud and clear to the NFL that we're not rolling over that easy! The more support, the louder the message.

We'd love to have you on board, have all of Patriots Nation on board. That phone call earlier this week cemented it for me, this is a noble cause and the stamp of approval I received confirmed that the person who this impacts the most "is on board with it"...and I feel even stronger now that if he could do something about it without jeopardizing his standing, he would! That is enough for me!

Respectfully

Jim D

Gronk called?!?

I signed it for the hell of it. Although I didn't give my real address or email address. Why was that info necessary?

I think this is why most are against signing it. In which case just as above, it don't matter. Most people just do a typo on the address change house number and use there junk email addresses. Everyone has two right.

Look at the org that runs those petitions and their other causes. Real email addresses are now theirs. :(

I just did my civic duty, with "junk" contact info.

Petitions are pretty flimsy to begin with, but they have less value than ever because of the internet. There was a time when signing petitions required things like going door-to-door to collect signatures from people. That required concentrated time, effort, and manpower. Now, it's just about spending 30 seconds to generate one on a website. As a result, you see tons of frivolous petitions.

I feel like the signatures themselves have less value too. Now people can just sit in their Facebook feed and be a social activist to the extent of spending 3 seconds to sign every petition that comes their way.

The whole thing just feels devoid of value anymore. I know that's not what people want to hear, but I think it's the truth. If we are getting the picks back, it's not going to be because of a silly petition.

Any petition used for legal purposes will be tested for validity through this information. In this case, if someone wants to try to attack it, they can do a sampling of the addresses provided to see what the accuracy % is. There are thresholds below which a petition becomes invalid (I don't know what they are).

I doubt it will matter here.

For those who did provide it, change.org may start to offer other petitions for you to sign through email, and will honor your request to not receive those anymore through the unsubscribe function at the bottom of the emails.
