The O-Line should be buying TB dinners for a whole season!

And it's a lucky thing that TB- who is quite tough -didn't get seriously injured.

Avocado ice cream is pretty cheap. They should buy him a factory.

OL was shameful. I know injuries have hurt us, mostly regarding Solder but the young guys really haven't made the progress we might have hoped for throughout the season. Cannon continues to prove he belongs nowhere on the starting rotation. Kline was a mess too.

It was borderline sickening how bad they were yesterday. For as bad as Brady's first interception was he played his ass off despite being under siege the entire game.

They need a legit outside receiver and a running back. It's a travesty to ask a 38 year old QB to drop back 50+ times to beat good teams (even though he is capable of doing it).

As an outsider, I can't understand why they refuse to give Brady more weapons. As effective as Edelman and Amendola are, they'd be so much better with a true #1 WR. Same at RB. Relying on Blount and avg. RB's rather than draft any number a quality RB's in the 2nd-4th rounds is odd to me. Pats offense would be on another stratosphere with a top end WR and RB.

Because all those things that you want are things that every team wants, which eliminates most chances to get good value. Brady has one of the elite #1 receivers in the NFL. He's 6'6", 270 pounds, and plays a position that was incredibly undervalued throughout the NFL. You don't get that benefit at WR and RB. In a league where each team has limited resources, Belichick has shown again and again that he'd rather not get mixed up in the high-end market at these positions where top talent is at a premium.

There's only so much money to go around. They have - when the roster is healthy - the greatest TE of all time (Gronk), one of the best WRs in the game (Edelman), one of the most dynamic pass-catching RBs in the league (Lewis), a solid second receiver (Amendola), and a sledgehammer of a RB (Blount).

But what we saw yesterday was that the OL was a mess. Yes, injuries (my goodness, the injuries on the OL were unreal). And they invested a lot in a Super Bowl caliber defense (which played very well yesterday). You can't spend big bucks on more skill players and hope to get away with going cheap on the OL, and then expect that cheap OL to not get crushed by dominant defenses.

Here's the thing... If the Patriots merely were, say, the 8th most injured team this year instead of the 1st, they easily win the top seed and play the AFCCG at home, and right now we're talking about a Super Bowl repeat possibility. That they suffered the most injuries in the entire league and still were just a field goal away from winning the AFC is just astounding.

Last year the Pats were pretty healthy, and guess what? They won the Super Bowl. This year they were not healthy and it showed. Even during the game, Gronk was banged up, Edelman's foot got re-injured, the OL was in shambles, Blount and Lewis were out, and Amendola even got beat up.

Health is the #1 factor. Carolina suffered basically one injury - Benjamin. Denver suffered some OL injuries but otherwise is in very good shape health-wise.

It occurred to me today that if Amendola hadn't made such a stellar effort to make the upcoming play even as good at 4th-and-1 (not that he did anything wrong) then NE may well have kicked there. Ah, irony. *sigh*.

Random post game thought. Collins was playing hurt. I can't believe a healthy Collins can't catch old Manning scrambling or catch up to old Owen Daniels on the second TD

I think the previous replies explained the thinking much better than I could've, at least as it pertains to the salary cap. We also have a terribly complex offensive scheme which has proven to be very difficult for even proven, potentially HOF capable receivers to pick up, so I think that factors into things as well. It's hard to take a chance on a guy for 10+ million a year when he may not even be able to pick up the system. I thought we had it with LaFell's very solid production last year (74 catches + a big postseason), but he really fell off the face of the earth this season, possibly due to injuries.

In terms of the RB position, I definitely agree with you there. I think RB is a very important position, and there aren't any excuses that can be made there in terms of needing to know the entire route tree, and everyone else's assignments like you could make with the WRs. While I wouldn't expect us to go out and pick up a high-priced free agent at the position, they certainly should bring in another middle tiered kind of back, as well as spend some draft resources on the position. I stated all year long (post-Lewis injury) that I felt that our lack of running game would be our downfall, and it certainly played a big part. With Lewis looking so good, yet proving to be rather fragile and a bit small, I think they need to address the running game as one of their top priorities for the coming season.

Oh my goodness. I hadn't even thought of that. You're totally right. Belichick was wavering on the decision a bit and may have chosen a different approach had it been a yard more.

Thanks for rubbing more salt into the wound. ;)

I think Kline was hurt the past several games, and that added to the problem; otherwise, he was a capable IOL this season. In other words, I wouldn't worry about Josh Kline for next year, but that's just my opinion. At worst, I think he can be a rotational player who knows the scheme and has proven to be a viable option.

I mentioned pre-game that if Wade Phillips were smart enough, he'd mix in plenty of rush 3 drop 8's and that he did.

For all the abuse heaped on Brady and the OL, and all of the shortcomings we had in that game, I think Wade Phillips has to actually be congratulated for putting together probably the best defensive plan of his career. What he did was brilliant- he pretty much tossed out what he usually does, and took components from Rex Ryan's plans, and the NYG strategy from 2011 and tweaked them to Denver's strengths. The tell they picked up on Stork's head bob was something they (and he) knew coming into this game. That is 100% on DeGuglielmo for not picking up on it and coaching up Stork.

No question Phillips was waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Congratulations to him.

Quite frankly, if anyone spent time on the draft board, they'd realize that most of the people there who watch the college game were quite high on some of the third round WRs who were available in the last 3 or 4 years. We're not talking about one or two hits or people taking a look backward after the draft, but fans who were very high on several guys. Lockett was a binky on that board. I can name several others. Somehow, the Patriots have used their resources to take either obscure receivers or guys who have had issues in college (Dobson and his hands).

Josh Boyce, Aaron Dobson, Taylor Price, Brandon Tate, Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson, PK Sam, etc.

This is not a wise use of resources.

An argument can be made that the Patriots need guys who can work with Brady in a special different kinda way. But that's quite a different story than arguing about the lack of investment in the high-end market, or different team priorities.

Lockett and Martavis Bryant were available, and people were very high on them. Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry too. We discussed Keenan Allen before the draft extensively. He was taken AFTER Dobson.

Yes, although the draft forum also has a habit of invalidating a prospect's red flags after he finds success elsewhere. Keenan Allen's success doesn't change that his knee was a disaster or that he almost quit at the beginning of his rookie year. One of the Pats reporters specifically talked to somebody with Bryant's college team who said he'd have no chance in the Pats' offense. For a team that needs wide receivers that are willing to put in the work behind the scenes and are smart enough to manage the adjustments for their one route (while Brady handles 5), it makes a lot of sense why the Patriots are less willing to take a risk on those guys.

Can we stop with the tinfoil ******** (or whatever poor attempt at Marx you're trying here)? Their offense got trounced by a better defense, end of story. Embarrassing that this **** is in the public for some anti-Pat drone to pass around the internet at our expense. Stop.

No buddy, I believe in the truth, but you continue to eat the crap the NFL feeds you for whatever the reason may be. I'm not even too bummed about the loss because I expected it. I predicted this outcome during week 14, when I came to the realization that the games were fixed and said that the Pats would throw the game against MIA and there was no logical reason behind it, except they were assisting the league in Manning's SB push. And when the day came NE did exactly what I predicted they would do, throw the game against MIA. Denver will beat Carolina too, because Carolina will throw the game, per orders of the league, so wake up and smell the beans. They are a business 1st and a sport last.

The NFL will back off deflated balls, not because they suddenly believe Brady is innocent and believe in the science, but because he did what was expected of him Sunday. There won't be any more dumb stories about his relationship with Trump, no more distractions about his diet or divorce to Gi, because he restored balance to his rivalry with Manning and so the league prospers.

The last quarter of that game Sunday showed the obviousness of NFL storytelling.

Brady moved the ball until he got into FG range, in his last 3 drives. That's 9 pts, end of game. However, this loss had to be on Brady, not Gost, because how else will Manning's last game against his rival, go down? Brady realized each time he got into FG range that there was too much time on the clock for Manning, so he got stupid on 4th downs, expecting to get the ball back. Manning who was moving the ball effectively on our D all game, decided to run the ball or overthrow all of his open WRs for easy 3 and outs, assisting Brady in his dramatic end and dramatic it was. A TD and all he had to do was complete the 2 pt conversion... Smh.

That is what was best for business. Now everyone, except me, will tune in to the SB, hearing the BS tales about how Manning was counted out, how he overcame adversity and how he owns Brady in AFC championship games at home, and ignorant fans will fall for the pathos and root for old PEDton to win a ring before retirement. Y'all will probably be up here congratulating Peyton after his win. Poor fools... the league had Manning's victory planned from the day Brady beat Seattle and screwed up the rivalry. This SB is about restoring balance to the feud, nothing more.

And the moon landing was faked, 9/11 was set up by the U.S. Government, and Charlie Sheen really does have tigers blood...
