Foxboro cops: Pats' Chandler Jones sought medical help early Sunday

Just a thought, but aren't players only tested once per year in the preseason, unless they're already in the substance abuse program? If that's the case, then I think we can reasonably assume Jones is already in the program, because the only benefits to synthetic crap is that they're cheaper and don't show up on a drug test.

Price obviously isn't an obstacle, so I assume he'd only be smoking this stuff if the possibility of getting tested was a concern, which it shouldn't be unless he's tested positive before.

Yet another example of a talented and rich athlete who lacks basic common sense.

.....and on schedule, SMY is now getting into Twitter fights with the select idiotic 2% of the base which thinks it's fine and dandy for Chandler Jones to have been ingesting this crap 6 days before a playoff game.

I fail to understand why she always wants to engage the gutter trash of society.
I noticed this too, she is too quick to engage with assclowns. Makes her an unpleasant follow.

Wouldn't be surprised one bit if goodell suspends him.

Don't think he can. He may try to, but good luck with. There's already a very precise, agreed upon program and procedure for players with substance abuse issues, which was negotiated in the CBA. If Goodell tried to step outside of that and suspend Jones, it would make his reaction to deflategate look borderline legally defensibly by comparison.

I bet a lot of us would be shocked to learn exactly how many players smoke this stuff. Especially players who are already in the substance abuse program, since they can smoke it without worrying about testing positive. It's way worse than weed, absolutely, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's about as common among players.

Agreed, but again, I'm betting that a lot more players were drinking and/or smoking weed this weekend than we realize. We want all of these guys to be Tom Brady, but it's just impossible to field a team with 53 of those guys. The Pats try harder than anyone, and this may lower his odds of staying here long-term, but I don't think it'll cost him much on the open market when he hits FA.

Yeah. I think the truth about modern NFL player lifestyles is somewhere between the Babe Ruth and Tom Brady comparisons. There have been a good amount of times a (usually former) player has come out and said most players smoke weed. We know a lot of them drink like fish because it's legal and "not a drug". I think the reality is more along the lines of work hard, play hard (drink), then smoke weed to unwind from the first two.

I'd say a suspension for this would be equally as protected by the CBA (not at all) but at least we know a guy actually did something...I would definitely not rule it out.

Once again (for about the 6th time now), we are NOT talking about something as relatively harmless as smoking weed.

I wasn't really talking about Chandler Jones, apologies for derailing.

Are we talking about something as harmless as weed? I think it's not that dangerous ;)

Again you are talking like every player cares about being Tom Brady and watching every thing they put into their body.

I think the reality is players are looking for anything to help ease the pain. And since synthetic weed is not a banned substance under the CBA players smoke that for no chance of positive test.

Even with Deflategate, Goodell had to use the tortured logic that deflating a football was more analogous to using PEDs than it is to an equipment violation. He went outside the CBA, but he at least had to construct some pretext for why he did so that in theory might mesh with the CBA.

With this, he'd have even less ammo, unless he wants to argue that smoking synthetic weed is a PED rather than a drug. If he suspends Jones on Friday, it will be appealed by Saturday morning, he'll play, and if it doesn't get overturned on appeal Goodell will get his ass handed to him in court again. Or he could just give up the pretext of consistency altogether and say "Article 42 says I can do whatever I want because **** you", but if he wasn't willing to do that with Deflategate I have a hard time imagining he'd be willing to do it here. Not to mention that the precedent of players being suspended for getting high would get the players collectively up in arms in a way that we've never seen before.

I think Goodell has made it abundantly clear that whether something should hold up in court does not matter to him.

Wait, it wasn't an accidental OD on sleeping pills?

I'll accept your apologies via PM

Reminds me of this picture, just taking a pic with Snoop should be enough to suspend someone for smoking weed lmao.

Ah, back when Snoop Dogg was attempting to become Snoop Lion.

Those are dark days for many.

First offense = substance abuse program

Second offense = fine

Third offense =larger fine

Fourth offense = 4 game suspension

Again under the CBA synthetic weed is NOT banned so this doesn't fall under the suspension list.

Something without real precedent in recent memory by a Patriots player + Goodell + playoffs = ??

Since when does the league care about the CBA when dealing out punishments?

It's not a banned substance, so the NFL substance abuse policy does not apply.

Goodell would presumably have to do a suspension under the personal conduct policy. Other players who used Spice were not disciplined, though, unless they were arrested for it (such as driving under its influence).

To suspend CJ would show a lack of integrity on Goodell's part. Oh wait...
