OT: Calvin Johnson considering retirement

If he retires and then changes his mind the Lions still get him back, right?

Yes, I'm doing that annoying thing where I'm daydreaming about getting an awesome but aging vet on our team. Megatron is a legit awesome dude, imo.
Too bad they can't cut him RIGHT NOW ;)

What a Karma payback that would be.

Last offseason: 8 months of Defamegate.

Next offseason: Megatron signs and HGH rules the media.

If that happens I will become Buddhist and don a bright orange monastic robe.

The one thing that would fit our offense is a physical big Outside WR like a Calvin Johnson or even Andre Johnson. Those guys are expensive and out of our price range, but if they want a championship then we might be able to get them

Hopefully he gets a shot at winning a Super Bowl before his career is done. I can't see that happening in Detriot...

Good/great player but no longer worth his contract unless he would suddenly get better again with a change of scenery. I always thought he was a great player but still somewhat overrated by those saying he was hands down the best receiver of his generation. It was absurd that Brady finished below him in that sham Top 100 poll for several years.

CJ was at one point the best receiver in the league but not a transcendent, "no one else is in the conversation best" like a motivated Randy Moss. Right now, there are at least ten WRs in the NFL who are better than him, if not more.

somehow the broncos will find a way to get him for 3 mil per year, and then after he retires he'll miraculously inherit 50 papa johns in denver.

Who are those 10?

If Calvin Johnson signed with the Pats over the off season I'll be as excited as I was the day they traded for Randy Moss, and we saw just how scary that was for the rest of the league.

I'd be more excited than I was only because my enthusiasm about Randy was a little more guarded than it would be for CJ. We weren't sure what Randy had in the tank.

Excluding the age factor, if we're only going based on WRs I'd rather have next year than Calvin?

I'm actually struggling here. I think he'd have an amazing year in our offense.

I will say this much - I don't think it would be wise to bring in Calvin at a salary that is higher than Gronk or even Edelman.

I don't think the Pats would bring him in if that last sentence had to happen in order to do so.

I think the assumption is that if he were to come here, it would be a reasonable deal for both sides.

1 year, $6-7 mill contract would be reasonable IMO

Amendola's cap hit is $6.8 next year so he'd likely get the axe, maybe along with LaFell

If we can for 3-5 mil so it

Close to impossible likelihood though

Megatron playing in a Patriots uniform has always been a pipe dream of mines! It will probably never happen! Just thought of it sends chills up my spine!
