There is was an interesting article posted this morning over at NFL.com, about Wes Welker. It talked about Welker still being interested in playing this year. He has been cleared to play by a noted neurologist. He is in great shape, and is working hard now. Supposedly he's had a couple of opportunities to play, but they just weren't the "right situations:" So I began to wonder just what WOULD be the "right situation", and I thought what if Edelman or Amendola were lost to an injury for a number of game, wouldn't Welker be a perfect replacement?

What a great story THAT would be. It would certainly keep our local mediots busy for a few weeks. It might even be the cause of a few threads here. ;)

Denver makes sense too.

I see no reason not to take him back in an emergency situation (i.e., not Edelman OR Amendola going down, but both at once). Burnt bridges are for people who don't think about the future.

IMO both Edelman AND Amendola would have to be on IR to be even considered. And then probably not going to happen anyway.

His time has passed.

Let's hope we never face a situation where Welker would be welcome. I think he would like to come back to a competitive team. I suspect he would rather play against the Pats or Denver than for them, but I bet he has friends on both teams.

No doubt. I was going to post the same thread. Belichick is a pragmatic guy. He brought Tully Banta Cain back, and Patrick Chung, and Deon Branch, after their exploits in free agency. Spite is for small minds.

Myself, I do like the idea that maybe he regrets leaving Foxboro for a few washed out years in Denver. If he had stayed with the Pats, my guess is he'd still be on the roster in a Jerod Mayo kind of a way-- diminished but respected.

Regardless of that, under the right circumstances, I'm sure he could be back for the Pats this year. Wes would fit right into the Amendola role, and we know he can function in the system with Brady. But, just now, Amendola is working in that role and doing a damn good job of it. So: sorry Wes, we've moved on.

Serious question - is Aaron Dobson even still on the roster? I swear I haven't heard his name in weeks... I think Bill would still try Dobson for a few weeks before calling Welker, even though they fill very different roles.

Denver makes sense too.

Denver, specifically Peyton Manning, is the worst possible situation. Manning hangs his receivers out to dry. Manning has less ability to throw into windows that allow his receivers to protect themselves than ever before in his career.

Welker needs to play with a passer who can throw accurately and quickly - Brady, Carr, Rodgers, Wilson, Dalton, Romo, or Luck and Stafford if they had offensive lines. Mariota and Bridgewater throw beautiful passes when they know what defense they are throwing into - they'll both be elites in a couple of years if they can play in stable coaching situations.

The worst would be either Manning, Cutler, Palmer, Winston, Jump Ball Joe, Geno Smith, Cassell, or Bradford.

Welker would be great in Green Bay. actually. Rodgers needs a reliable route runner with Nelson out. It's be cool to see Wes do his thing in the NFC playoffs.

Hes been active at least the past two games

And on the topic at hand I dont see anyway this would ever happen. Even if both Dola and Edelman went down. Welker is just done. Having him would probably be more of a hindrance than a help.

Aaron? I don't think he would survive very long running across the middle from the slot. IMO he may not be on the roster for long if that was the case.

I believe once Romo comes back they could really use WW. Might be too late in the season though....

That'd be like being a race car driver and not wearing a seal belt.

Welker mentioned the "right situation" and while from a post season perspective Denver would be right, Wes might still have enough of his mental faculties to know Peyton is willing to get him leveled to complete a pass.

If Welker felt Denver was the "right situation" he would be there already. They've been dying for a #3 WR.

But they have #11 Cole Beasley and Phil Simms said he's the best slot receiver in the NFL when we were playing the Cowboys...

The Raiders would be a really great place for him to land. He could help take that offense to the next level and be a good security blanket for Carr.

The weird thing about Rodgers is he isn't that accurate on short throws. His timing isn't great and that matters a lot more on short throws than long throws where the WR has time to adjust.

How can you say Cassell would be bad for Welker? Cassell completed 111 passes to Welker in 2008.
