Opening statement:

I'd just like to start by giving my condolences to Marquise Hill's family. I got to know Marquise (Hill) in New England. It's always difficult when you lose someone, especially so young. I just want them to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them and my condolences to the Patriots, all the people there who are dealing with this. It's very difficult.

In terms of where we are right now, I've been pleased with our offseason program. Guys have been working extremely hard in the weight room. They've been working extremely hard on their conditioning. I like the progress that we're making there.

This is the next phase of the offseason where we get to work together as a group. The process is installing new things that we're looking at. It's reviewing the things that we have as part of the system, shaking the rust off, going through the situations, building on the things that we've done. It also gives us an opportunity now to look at working together and working on the different elements of the game plan that we put in daily. With that, I'll open it to questions.
-----
On Thomas Jones…
I've been pleased with Thomas (Jones). When we went and decided to make the trade, we did a lot of research on his character. Consistently, regardless of what team he played with or who we talked to, the reoccurring theme was his work ethic. Every time I go down to the weight room, he's there. You'll see today that there's real progress in terms of his muscle mass. His work ethic on the field has been impressive. I like the way he practices, the way he carries himself, the way that he studies. Those things have all been very positive.
-----
On the Justin Miller situation and the importance of character…

Character is extremely important to us, and personal conduct is extremely important to us. I've expressed that to the team. Justin (Miller), Mike (Tannenbaum) and I met and we discussed that with him, as well. He understands exactly how we feel and we’ve had discussions, very clear discussions.

On whether the team plans to take disciplinary action against Justin Miller…
Any disciplinary action, just like contracts, is internal.

On whether he has heard from the league regarding Justin Miller…
I spoke to Commissioner (Roger) Goodell and Mike (Tannenbaum) spoke with the league, as well. That wasn't just in reaction to this situation. It's because I support the things that he's doing strongly, and I wanted him to know that. I also wanted to talk to him a little bit about his ideas and his thoughts. What he's doing is great. I can't support him enough on it.
-----
On what he has seen from Chansi Stuckey…
He's done some good things. I like his short area quickness, his ability to come in and out of breaks. I think that's been what we envisioned.

This time and even leading into the early part of camp where guys are learning so much, it's hard to really get a sense of all those things because there is the thought process of: “Do I have the right split?” “Do I have the right route?” “Do I have the right rout adjustment?” That's before you even get to being able to run everything at full speed and not think and just react.

You'll see changes in speed with all those guys as they get more and more comfortable.
-----
On D’Brickashaw Ferguson’s weight…
I can tell you I'm not over 315 right now. In terms of Brick (D’Brickashaw Ferguson), I think he and I have worked on our weight together. We're hopefully both going the right direction.
-----
On Chad Pennington…

He's Chad. Whether it's the rehab or the offseason program, whatever it is, he's doing it as aggressively as anybody. He's working as hard as anybody. He wasn't part of those first two OTAs. You could tell he was itching to get back out there.

It's exciting to see him out there, really to see everybody out there working together. This is always a great time of year.

Feeling lucky, excited Jest fans...

It's amazing to think about the potential a non-injured Pennington has. He's already one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL and that comes after three seasons of limited work with his wide receivers. A full offseason could potentially put him, and the Jets, over the top.

Perhaps I am a little optimistic - something I'm often told - but I truly believe the Jets are on the verge of dethroning the New England Patriots atop the AFC East.

For Jet Fans, April/May/June are the cruelest months, breeding false-hopes in a dream land, mixing hard-liquor for liars, stirring dim-wits with spring games. But let them be warned: By winter Foxboro will be covered in victorious snow, and we will be laughing at the same old losers.

Good, b/c there has'nt been any victorious snow in foxboro for a while now.

Really? I remember an *****-whoopin the Pats put on your boys and chubby last December in the playoffs!

In not trying to get into a war of words b/c im no troll. Ass whoopin? It was a close game throughout but it got out of hand at the end. I didnt expect to win but wanted to see some fight, which I did. The future is bright for the J-E-T-S, I still think were 2 solid offseasons from being a legit contender, for now I will concede the divison to the Pats.

If youy don't want to be considered a troll then consider a few things:
1. You're a Jets fan!
2. The picture you have of A-Rod is annoying!
3. You crap on a Pat's fans metaphor, claiming that the victorious snows have dissipated, when, from what I can see, it looks to be a very "snowy" season at Gillette this year!

The game I saw looked like a pretty convincing win in which the J-E-T-S were thoroughly beaten. 2 seasons you say. Can Mangini withstand the media and pressure in NY for that long? 2 years is a long time in that town, unless, of course you have actually won something in recent memory.

I did'nt know this forum was for Pats fans only:eek: . Im sorry if i offended the almighty Pats fan by poking a little fun at your metaphor. You had a nice offseason we will see how much success that will translate to on the field. As far as the Manginious, he has a honeymoon period with the NY media for this year, and if he has success again this year then he will have another honeymoon year. Anyone with sense in the NY media knows the great strides Mike Tannnenbaum and Mangini made with this team last year and this year. How could you hate someone with a picture of elmo and Jets football?:) I like my A-Rod sig too

I like your sig too. Especially how Man-Gina, Coles, Pennington and Graham are giving so much encouragement to wee Kellen Clemens as he tries to throw a football with his weak-@$$ed arm. Pop-guns for everyone!:D

P.S. I realize Justin Miller's living in a fishbowl there in NY, but that's a helluva punishment. He'll stink even more when they pull him outta there.

I guess you never watched him play college football. Yep, you're in for a surprise.

Actually I have. If you need some video proof that he has a good arm just ask:cool:

You poor sap. As I said, April/May/June are the cruelest months for Jet fans, breeding false hopes in a dream-land, mixing hard-liquor for liars, stirring dim-wits with spring games. :)

That picture of the Jets gathered around a freakin puppet just might be the gayest shot I've ever seen. Wasn't Mangini the friggin water-boy here a few seasons ago?

And Ha... I'm not a big baseball fan, but the season IS over for gay-rod and the overpaid misfits. Picture a healthy John Lester in Wakefiel'ds 4th spot (he will be called up in a few weeks). And then imagine a rotation of Schilling, Becket, Dice-K, Lester and Taveras. Ha-over and out.

Just for fun

Clemens is a very smart and fundamentally sound quarterback with a very quick and compact release and when he strides into his throws, he can make all the throws with very good zip. Clemens shows impressive ability to consistently step up and make big plays -- mostly with his arm, but occasionally with feet -- when it matters most; even vs. heavy pressure/blitzes.

More love for my Jets Sesame street pic. And to address your Yankees comment, I picture that rotation, then think about being 6 games back in the wildcard right now with 110 to go:)

So expecting 8-8 or 9-7 is false hope? That quote from the predraft profile may show you, I dont operate on hope but on facts :).

I guess you're trying to "wow" me with regurgitated scouting reports from Russ Lande Jr.? Please. You realize that if I'm right about Clemens, and you're wrong, all those visions of sugar plums dancing in your head as you look forward to the next 5 years of Jet football will be a just another cruel joke after 40 years of cruel jokes? Don't be nervous. Just go back to your Jet board and tell eachother how wonderful your strapping young QB will be. That's what friends are for.
