Or maybe the team knows that Terell Brown's injury is really that serious.:(

That's my concern as well. While life goes on, I have a hunch that we'll see old Melvin out there from time to time.

Hopefully, Coleman steps up. That would be huge.

Coleman has looked good in his little time on the field. He has been pretty good in tight coverage and competitive at the high point on a few throws his way. Maybe he develops by the latter part of the season. I'm disappointed about Brown. He made some plays in preseason and the regular season. He was looking good out there mostly. We really need Butler to hold up. If he gets hurt, stalls or regresses, our repeat hopes would take a major blow.

3rd Qtr vs BAL

Spotlight on MelvinIsland

1:19:20: Catch by Hooman in zone coverage. Prior play he was on Edelman but Brady threw it away. Not clear if his coverage helped make that happen.
1:32:40 Catch by LaFell. Played way off him. Ugh.I'm not sure if hes told to do that but man...
1:34:03 Catch by Gronk...no chance. He did make the tackle. Nice job.
1:38:14 INC to JE in the EZ. Decent coverage. Bad throw by TB

1:38:30 NOTE:Collinsworth speaks glowingly about MelvisIsland. "Hes come in here and done a job tonight. Hes gonna be around for a long long time"....LOL

1:46:52....THE PLAY....He bit on the pass to JE. Should have picked up DA. Oh well.
1:54:40. INC to Gronk. More zone coverage. Bad throw.

Amazing how quickly some in TV commentary are to lavish praise both prematurely and unwarranted.
I don't want to be told that somebody is a great player; I want to be told how a great play was made.

Looks like he wants to get some more of Gronk's anus?

Yep.

After watching every snap of Melvin's he was doing a decent job so CC's commentary wasn't totally out of line IMO

Right after that he got bullied and then subsequently vaporized.

If he sucks during his yet-to-be-determined tenure here, then I hope you don't mind when I refer
to him as Smelvin.

Rashaan Smelvin: Hello, Jerry
Jerry Seinfeld: Hellooooooooo, Smelvin

Collinsworth I used to like his insight about 10 years ago but nowadays i find him painful to listen to.
Every 10,000 words he says something of interest.
Id rather listen to Marshall Faulk and Mark Brunell do a Patriots game.

Pats coaching staff:Hey Rashaan come here
Rashaan: what?
Pats coaching staff:come here
Rashaan:um o.k.
Pats coaching staff:grabs him puts him in headlock.
Rashaan:Hey,hey what are you guys up to?
Pats coaching staff:Now that your a Patriot we have to wash that Ravens stink off of you.

You are more than welcome to help yourself to the fruits of my infantile sense of humor.

1st Qtr vs BAL

Spotlight on MelvinIsland.

10:17 Hes covering JE11 in the slot and does a nice job. INC
24:56 Hes on JE11 on the outside INC
26:59 He was forced to pick up Gronk in the seam. Big gain. Looks like he was expecting coverage help on the other side. I'm not sure I blame him for that.
29:10 JE11 on the near side. INC on an overthrow. Decent coverage
29:45 Has LaFell in the slot. Good coverage. Brady runs it in for the TD.

All in all he looks like he belongs out there. I'll watch more later.

Right there, you mention 3 incompletes to people he was covering. That means that the Wiki info on him isn't correct about how the Patriots torched him..

The fact that he was up against Edelman and held his own speaks volumes..

Trade for Verner,Mccourty and or Smith.

It's highly unlikely that Tennessee is going to trade McCourty. The trade would be after this week, so he'd have 6 weeks with them and his 1.8M signing bonus. So, that is $4.2M in dead money. Yes, it would be a savings of $4.4M. However, the Pats would have to have the $4.4M in cap space, which they don't currently.

While KC just lost Charles. they are high on Davis and Charcandrick West. The Chiefs would only save $2.75M in cap space due to the Signing bonus Amortization (2.25M), Roster Bonus ($1M), and Workout bonus (250K) as well as the 6 weeks ($250K/wk) of salary. The Pats would only need $2.75M in free cap space to add him. What may make Smith available is that he's a UFA at the end of the season.

Verner has the same salary as Smith (4.25M) which is $250K/wk. So the Bucs would save $2.75M against the cap as well as the $13.25M over the next 2 years. The problem with trading for Verner is that $4M of his salary is guaranteed for this year. . So, if he were to fail out, the Pats would be stuck with paying him quite a hefty sum.
