Maybe Gregg Doyel Needs to Get Some Help

Reading this thread reminds me of a scene from A Fish Called Wanda:

Wanda: I'm sorry about my brother, Ken. I know he's insensitive. He's had a hard life. Dad used to beat him up.

Ken: Good.

If he needs space he needs to take it. It starts and stops with him and I wish him well with that but he gets no slack if he still lies and attacks.

That he is suffering does not give him free reign nor excuse him for the evil he has done. Did any of those A Holes care what havoc they wreaked on Brady, McNally and Jastremski's lives or ours for that matter with the lies they spewed? How has he hurt others? These NFL and media folks did not give a damn as long as it got them ratings.

I know someone with depression. "It starts and stops with him" is remarkably uninformed. You are assuming he has full control of himself. Depression is a disease of the brain - it takes over a person. The fact that he put out that cry for help (and there is no other description for that interview that he completely hijacked from its intended course) is remarkable.

The guy basically waived a flag saying "somebody please help me!" on the radio. That was like a 911 call.

It is up to the people around him (in this case, his employer) to recognize all they need to do is(just LISTEN to that freaking interview) that he needs someone to step in immediately.

I agree 100% on Indystar but if he keeps writing lies I will be responding to that crap. He may be driving the people he is writing lies about to worse trouble than he is in. I agree IndyStar is responsible as they have always been for the lies he writes.

And you comment about being uninformed is uninformed. Him getting space starts and stops with him.

Guy definitely has some judgement issues. No doubt.

From the time I saw the interview he did with Tanguay (another case study) the week before the AFCCG, it was patently obvious that Doyel had severe issues.

He really needs to take time off and get his situation to a different level. There is no "cure" for most depression, but he sounded very unstrung in the linked radio interview above. It sounds like he needs to get to a different, safer place.

I'm not saying he isn't mentally or emotionally ill, there are lots of possibilities. He needs a doctor, not a rest, if he's that messed up.

There are plenty of effective treatments for depression. No cure, but you can work and make your life better like anyone else. Besides pills, cognitive therapy can be very effective.

I agree with everything but your last sentence. Once again, your point is like blaming a Tourettes sufferer for swearing uncontrollably.

Him getting space starts and stops with the Indy Star. That's kinda like how the newspaper industry works, unless Doyel is the owner/editor.

Doyel did his part - - - he put out a cry for help. Most people with depression don't even do that.

I agree to a point but if they keep him on and writing crap lies don't ask me or anyone to give him space. I feel for him and see he is in pain and don't want that at all but you asking people to give him space is not right. The premise of your post asking us to give him space is fundamentally wrong and completely unnecessary. He needs to be hospitalized now. (edit, see this was weeks ago)

Fair point.

It is not up to us.

It is up to the people around him who have influence on him.

I was reading that Kitty Dukakis is getting electro shock therapy and it's very effective for her. Apparently, they've refined it to the point where it helps some people more than any other treatment, with therapy, of course. No more One flew over the ****oos nest Frankenstein jobs. You might recall she was so messed up during the Presidential campaign, when they took her speed pills and booze away, she actually drank rubbing alcohol.

I'm of a mind that anyone could become clinically depressed by circumstances, though some are predisposed, no doubt. Just like you can drink yourself into a drinking problem, but some are wired to the tendency.

Seeing this call was 9/2 and it is now 9/25 I can't help but notice he is still with the IndyStar and writing. Yea that about says it all

I can see the possibility of depression in many parts of Indiana among football fans this season, but that's not clinical, that's just reaction to their current reality.

From what I've read, it can be a problem in the frontal lobe of the brain. Other times it can be caused by a thyroid problem. Other times it can be caused by one's circumstances.

Exactly. The hell with the exploitative management of the Indy Star. This guy is still pulling weird crap.

Today he alleged that Patriots fans slashed his tires.

This is like the movie Network.

Sounds like a case of this

From what I read, it cause a quick grand mal seizure and shakes off the cloud temporarily. just like anti depressants, it won't be more than temporary without lifestyle changes, though.

Yeah, that's going to only get worse.

I don't think so, it sounded real which is even more shocking he is still tweeting and writing for IndyStar. He should have been hospitalized.

Especially when he started talking about his suicidal tendencies.

Seriously, this is analogous to the movie Network. Hopefully, it has a better ending, but the Indy Star and the people around Doyel have got to get their heads out of their Indianas and get him help.
