I thought I'd add this thread where we all can put what we learned from the various games we all watched. Some of this stuff may be stuff we already knew.

What I learned today (in no particular order):

1) Both Mannings suck

2) Andrew Luck and the Colts look to be overrated again this year

3) The Giants still suck

4) Suh is probably the most dangerous player in the NFL

5) Tyrod Taylor is either a halfway decent QB or the Colts D is just that bad

6) Peyton Manning is really toast

7) The Texans have a ways to go (Hoyer is bad)

8) Mariota will proabably end up having a better rookie season than Winston

Good points ... it was a very enjoyable opening Sunday ... lots of good games.

Lots of sloppy play also ... so much for the experts knowing wtf they are talking about.

There's always a fair amount of sloppy play by everyone in week 1, though. But yeah, I really did enjoy this opening Sunday. It's easier when your team already has a W in the books.

Ryan Mallett will start next week.

Tavon Austin is incredible

I knew this. :)

-Ameer Abdullah will be the toast of the NFL for 8 weeks, until everyone realizes he can't hang onto the ball.

-Miami is going to be terrible, and the pundits will be wrong again. 6-10 terrible potential.

So, I'm watching James Jones make plays all over the field and scoring TD's for GB and I can't help but wonder why it never worked out with him. Didn't we have him for workouts a few different times? Am I wrong?

I've often wondered the same thing.

I imagine that it had something to do with money and/or the concern that Jones may not have been able to pick up the offense--maybe even a combo of both?

That most QB's have a problem with a normally inflated ball . Brady seems just fine
Jets suck and Browns even more .
Colts are great when losing by 27 ...14 straight points
The refs generally make mistakes
Pats overall performance was one of the best in 1st week
saw a lot of grabbing by Broncos cb's with no flags

Green Bay looked good in Week 1. Their offense looks like it could be in mid season form even without Jordy. But then again, it was the Bears. A lot can change obviously, but Green Bay looked good. Oh, and Jay Cutler looked like himself.

We learned..... They are who we thought they were.

Seriously, a lot of injuries, a lot of turnovers, crazy Sunday. As my Dad always says, that ball ain't round. Lots of crazy bounces. Got stuck watching the Jets/Browns game, and the Browns had such weird luck. EVERY fumble landed in the Jet's hands. There was one play, snap over Fitzpatrick's head, goes bouncing to the 2 yard line, 3 Browns around the ball, Fitzpatrick somehow comes up with the ball, somehow, upside down on his back. So crazy. They pick off Fitzpatrick, and Marshall strips the DB of the ball. Then McCown is running towards the end zone trying to score on another play, crushed at the 1, ball goes into the end zone surrounded by nothing but Jets. That and 8 penalties in the 1st half and the Browns are down 14-10 at halftime despite dominating. The football gods seem to hate the Browns. Lots of crazy bounces for the Giants too, but they found a way to lose.

Meanwhile, the J-E-T-S have already used up 25% of their wins for the season and the AFC East is undefeated. Oh, and Beast Mode CANNOT be counted on to gain one yard when it matters most -- as Pete Carroll knew all along.

History has shown that week one is not an indicator what so ever of how the season plays out and that people jump to conclusions that usually don't pan out. So now we have a new 16 best teams ever and 16 worst teams ever to play that the media gets to spew over.

Giants and Cowboys both suck. Cowboys played the worst two minutes of football I've seen in quite some time at the end of the 1st half. Pats would've hung 40 on em last
night. Giants with the epic choke job lol

For all of you who picked Winston over mariota, I told you so. Haha.

Unfortunately Winston has one of the worst head coaches on his side. At best, Winston will be Donovan
Campbell soup mcNabb. He's not coachable.

It is hard to say we learned anything because week 1 is always a strange week with a lot of aberrations that look like one thing and ends up being something else. Remember last year at this time, the Pats were in trouble because their o-line was awful and Brady had no receivers while the Dolphins were poised to take the AFC East?

That said, I look at continuing trends from previous season and some things can be taken from it. Here are the two big ones:
  • Peyton's arm strength is gone. I always thought they overplayed his injury especially since the injury came about three games after his production started to free fall. It is going to really hurt the Broncos on offense because no one is going to respect the deep pass by him and will flood the center of the field and force him throw outside the numbers. It also hurts the Kubiak, run first style of offense because, even in sub packages, defenders will be close to the line.
  • The Colts are still a soft team. You punch them in the mouth and they fold. That is why they suck in the post season (barring last year when they got tomato cans the first two rounds). They have a soft schedule so they should still be in the hunt for HOA, but I don't think I fear them in Indy or in Foxboro. People look at the names they added and assumed they were going to be better. But neither Andre Johnson nor Frank Gore looked anything special week one. Luck loves to over rely on one receiver anyway.

Go back and look at how the Pats played at the end of the first half in the last Super Bowl. That was the worst less-than two minutes of football I've seen in quite some time.
