Goodell and Kraft sat next to each other for 4 1/2 hours today in LA committee meeting in Chicago hotel. Yes, they spoke.

Kraft is tone deaf. Talk about misreading your fan base.

It's business. As long as they are both there they have to work together. I've sat next to many people I can't stand in meetings because we have the same goal on the thing we're meeting about.

There's no "win' here. The best case scenario is we only lose two draft picks for doing nothing wrong.

I'm an optimist. I'm still holding out hope that if Brady can get exonerated the courts, then it will be really difficult for the NFL* to maintain stealing the picks.

It's actually possible that public sentiment will be for returning the picks.

I basically agree with you.

I just think they need an answer ready to "OK, the league offered to settled for no more than a small fine and a vague statement about non-cooperation; doesn't that give you everything you want? Why not take it?"

Further, I believe in erring on the side of taking a strong position too soon rather than too late.
I think if the league offered a small fine and zero games TB would take it. I don't think that has happened though.

I think the NFLPA's language and Kensil's tone and professional rhetoric has been pretty strong but not to the point of alienating- like the NFL's.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I thought tomorrow's session was public. Is that not true? I know the conference at 10:30 wouldn't be, but isn't there something in court at 11?

Next Headline from the Washington Post will like read :

Sun to rise in the East. Experts are speculating that it will likely set in the West

God, did anyone REALLY think that there would be a settlement????? Why would Brady possibly want to settle for anything less than compete exoneration. Virtually every piece of relative evidence clears him, while the NFL only has misinformation, innuendo, and CBA technicalities that have nothing to do with issue itself.

The NFL would LOVE to settle, but has nothing to offer except something that implies Brady's guilt to offer. Brady would be a fool to accept anything but a complete capitulation, So in typical NFL style they are putting on a strong front, portraying to the public that that are absolutely convinced that Brady is GUILTY and thus continue the PR attack for as long as they can.

Fortunately, it all SHOULD come to a screeching by the 19th. The BEST, I think the NFL can hope for is that Berman will push this off to a truly independent arbiter, who will quickly vacate the punishment. But my instinct (which is invariably right....except for those times it's not) tells me that Berman will take on the case, and the NFL is not going to be happy at the end of it

Personally I don't think a settlement is possible. Let's assume they meet exactly half way.

2 game for Brady specifically for impeding the investigation and not guilt of the footballs. Why would either side take this deal? It would make both looks bad. Goodell would look weak and ineffective cause he basically gave a non-guilty verdict at the end even though Brady gets 2 games.

Brady looks guilty cause he took 2 games no matter what the settlement says.

There will be no deal cause frankly both sides are better off fighting and losing then taking a deal that will make them look bad.

Now THAT is a chilling image which terrifies me....unless of course, Kraft had a vial of Ricin on him.

All the bluster was to get the fan base going and come to camp and fill the crowds and sign autographs and buy more memorabilia. He is still stupid enough to negotiate with Goodell. Now Goodell will leak that they proposed 1 game and even kraft agreed but brady refusd to budge. Or they will now put pressure on brady via kraft.

There are other ways a Kraft negotiation can go. E.g., "Roger, your minions have been doing you a great disservice. You're facing three defamation suits from my guys that I know of. And you're going to lose. If you walk things back publicly I may be able to help you head them off, but you only have a few weeks left to make that happen."

If Brady does that and Goodell comes in with "four games, four games that's our final offer" that shows no give on their part and that they are ignoring the judge's order to negotiate...Judge Berman can't be happy.

Judge Berman has never ordered the two sides to negotiate. He has requested that they try to reach a settlement before their court dates.

We are talking about a LA stadium talk. Kraft is not going to screw himself over to get Goodell. This move is big for him and the future of the league. Doesn't mean that things are forgiven between Kraft and Goodell.

Kraft is going to have to wait to get Goodell. He is going to have to slowly build a coupe. Him taking his ball and going home will only make it that much tougher. He needs to build up his power and behind the scenes turn people against Goodell.

When a judge says "please do this" you need to take it as "you damn well better do this".

But now that Goodell has upped the rhetoric to insist that Tom was a blatant cheater who also offered bribes to cover it up, I'm not sure that Tom will even accept a significant fine. If they explain that to the judge, he may be sympathetic.

The judge isn't trying to get himself off the hook, he's just trying to end this once and for all. A settlement ends it. A ruling may not, as it may just send it to an arbitrator if he sides with Tom. If the NFL won, it would be over though. God that would suck.

I agree. Kraft gains nothing by avoiding this meeting. In fact, he hurts himself. He needs to make himself the most powerful and invaluable owner in the League if he is ever going to get rid of Goodell.

He doesn't have to. Judicial requests have lots of force behind them without having to be articulated to get their point across. As in "you damn well better do this..or else."

Edit- In the "great minds think alike"category, I didn't see Palm Beach's posting with the same quote before posting....

It confounds me to think an innocent man should agree to some punishment. I didn't know this was Russia.
If i were in bradys position i would retire before i acquiesced. I could ride off into the sunset with 4 super bowls and three super bowl mvps. I believe my retiring would be seen as prof that i was innocent and that i had integrity.

Kraft needs to make this public and call for Goodells head. If i were him i would sue the league. Kraft has enough money it's time to fight for justice
