Darby's issue is toughness, not coverage. You must have him confused with someone else.

Yes I might have had him confused with someone else. My big objection was his stone hands.
I have little use for CBs who cannot catch. There is no risk when you throw at him. PJ Williams has soft hands and hits hard. Darby is a lot faster. Interesting decision, but I would go for PJ, but BB seems to prefer speed.

I'd like a more modest move like pick 64 and 101 to get up to the middle of the round. By this
time some teams are starting to make picks all over the board and overlook good players.

Yeah, that seems more like something BB would do. With the Patriots currently not having a pick in round 5, I don't see BB giving up a bunch of picks in rounds 2-3 and then having that long a space between picks.

Right now, the Pats have:

Corners:
Ryan
Dennard
Butler
Arrington
Fletcher
Chekwa
McClain
Swanson
Greene

Safeties
McCourty
Chung
Harmon
Wilson
Ebner

Where do any of the DBs left fit into that group? Asking seriously.

They have only ONE corner who can cover, and that is Butler. You cannot go into a season with only one corner.

CB and NT are must picks for NE.

OL too, but can be had later.

The Patriots already have a couple of Big Galoots to play DT/NT.

There is a desperate need for CB and G. The need at CB is obvious, but the Patriots patchwork OL has to face Suh and and Williams twice a year, ugh, so we need a roadgrader on the inside to try to neutralize those DTs

#azcardinals will listen if a team calls w/interest in trading for WR Michael Floyd. No one has.

Well I doubt anyone is going to call today. Flyod is decent but his contract has 1 or 2 years left and he is only okay not great (has good size though at 6'3 225 and never missed a game).

I might use a 4th rounder... maybe. Not a 2nd or 3rd though. They should not expect a call today IMO.

For a 2nd rounder? He was pretty disappointing in his third year, which is when you expect receivers to break out. Frankly, I'd rather start LaFell, who's got great hands and body control and runs good routes, even if he doesn't have the speed to separate. There are downfield guys like Devin Smith who will be available in the 3rd.

Move up in round 2
Draft CB

Move back into round 2
Draft WR

Use round 3 compensatory pick to take Collins (OL)

That would be a nice night's work, IMO.

Some comments on the comments:

1. It doesn't take much thought to understand that the Pats have to find more help at OG, CB, and to a lesser degree, a pass catching, more explosive RB.

2. First on everyone's list is CB. However the CB position was thin to begin with and all of the top guys had flaws and question marks and all 4 of the top guys are gone already, and the next 3 or 4 aren't going to be far behind.

3. It should be noted that recently even the top CB's have had some rough starts to their careers, even those who have been rated much higher than those who went last night. There have been top half of the first round CB's who have disappointed like Claiborne , Kilpatrick, and Milner, as just as many who took a few years to develop like Jimmie Smith So anyone who thinks that we are going to find anything more than solid rookie depth even if we could pick our personal binky is fooling themselves

4. The CB's we have already on the roster are as good a group that we've had since 2009, and I remind you we've managed to reach FOUR straight AFCCG's and only one of them had Revis on them. Between Ryan, Armstead, Dennard, and Butler Plus the added size of Fletcher and Checkwa, the Pats might not be as good as we were last season, but we might be better than the disaster most people think and better than we were the other 3 years we made it to the AFCCG

5 That being said, I join the rest in hoping for additions from the draft from the CB position. That has to come from 2 sources. First is a group from the 2nd tier of CB's that will likely be gone by the end of the 2nd round, and those we can find by thinking out of the box later on. As to the latter, I think we are more likely to find future upgrades and size at CB by looking at guys like Nick Marshall (6'2) in the 4th or Tony Lippett (6'3) after.

6. The same goes for OG. History has shown us that we may find our OG's on the roster with guys like Kline and Flemming who continue to improve, or FA's and vets like Connolly or Mathis who may be added closer to July

7 That being said we all want to add a future starting OG in this draft. We can find them in the 2nd with guys like AJ Caan, who has tons of top notch experience but a lower ceiling, or a kid like Marpet, who might end up being a perennial all pro, but might take a year or two to get there coming from Division 3. Its an interesting choice, especially since you will likely to have to give up one of our cluster of 3 to move up the 10 or so spots to get into position. Also if you move up to get a OG that might have the possibility to start, you lose any chance of getting one of the 2nd tier CB's

8. We know BB has proven he can find starting interior OLmen all over the draft, so I would think BB would value the CB as rarer. That being said, CB's are going to be over drafted this year, so just because there aren't many 2nd tier CB's available, it doesn't mean any are any good and worth the pick

9. If BB trades a pick or two, I would take it as a sign that he REALLY likes the player he is going after.

10, If he lets the 2nd day come to him, I would take it as a sign that there are no real gems to be had and you might as well keep all his picks in the cluster and hope you get lucky.

4. The CB's we have already on the roster are as good a group that we've had since 2009

Not even close

That was last year's group.

Please, please, please football gods. Just give us RB David Johnson today and the other two are negotiable.

(But if you want to give us OG A.J. Cann too that would be great.)

Should be a very telling night, I think we have to address the OL and the CB position with possible multiple picks.
The more I read and see tape on Brown, the more I like the pick. Hopefully we can continue to improve our team!!!!!
