Curran article on Jets tampering

I blame the NFL for drawing this out, but that is because Goodell is gun shy because of Ray Rice, Bountygate, etc. where he looked to rushed to judgement and looked horrible after the ruling is issued. The league feel they need to look like they are doing a thorough investigation because people are calling for blood.

Again, if they weren't holding off issuing punishments for every allegation of cheating, I would agree that their lack of action against the Jets is significant. But they are waiting to dump the punishments all at once on a Friday at 5PM.

And in the mean time the Pats haven't yet re-signed the tampered player.

Not surprisingly, Adam Sheffer reported yesterday that the player in question will likely be signed by the offended team, or the offending team.

The tampering damage is tangible and worsening, and other reports suggest that the tampering team is charging forward with an all out effort to complete the goal of signing the tampered with player, and the offended team's off-season moves are being held hostage by the unresolved signing of the tampered with player.

The difference is in the perception they have created and the damage they have done to the Patriots in the process. You are clearly saying the league is doing this to hide their incompetence and that is inexcusable.

The media did that. Not the league. No matter what the league did, it wouldn't have stopped Mark Brunnel crying on the air or he and Jerome Bettis talk about how 2 PSI makes a huge difference about how the ball is thrown. The ESPN smear campaign started long before the league made a single statement on Deflategate.

If we want to ask blood for this, we cannot get upset when the media and Patriots haters want blood for DeflateGate (assuming there is any truth to it).

That one sentence was enough to make me ignore the rest of the post.

The Jets are guilty of tampering. The Pats aren't guilty of anything.

OMG!

Yeah, that argument is nonsensical. Whether the person in question is incompetent or mischievous, he is still a high ranking official which makes "the league" appropriate shorthand.

The fact that other teams were also caught cheating and haven't been dragged through the mud doesn't invalidate the accusations, it just changes them from Jet favoritism to NE mistreatment.

It is the league's fault that the media lined up to smear the Patriots and ignore the other allegations of cheating. For example, Bill Polian went on ESPN talked about deflating footballs as if it was as big as the Black Sox scandal (ok, that was Gregg Doyel, but close), but the league doesn't feel pumping in crowd noise is a big deal. The media don't care about other teams, they care about the Pats. That isn't the league's fault. If the Pats were caught pumping in crowd noise, ESPN would have run hours about how fake crowd noise gives such a huge advantage to the home team that it probably gave the Pats' 2-3 wins a year.

The league (and the media) does not care about the rules, or being fair. The league is interested in one thing: money. There's more money to be made in league parity then there is in continued Patriot domination. Better to have all the AFC teams, and most certainly, the one in NY, propped up and made stronger by making the #1 team weaker. No one except us want to watch the Pats go 13-3, 12-4, 14-2 and roll through the post season. Since they can't beat us on the field with X's and O's, they'll try to level the field by looking the other way when the poorer sisters of the league violate rules. They'll find a way to level the field in the board room or, if they have to court room.

It's all about money. Parity = $$.

We don't have anything that resembles parity in the NFL. The same teams (with few exceptions) are the playoff teams every year.

The Jets are guity of the equivalent of jaywalking. I am sure they will lose their late round pick and the Pats will be swapping 5th rounders with them and it will be properly punished. ]

What do people want the league to do? Take their first rounder and fine them a million dollars?

Again, my point that people are upset at the league when they should be upset with the media.

So we shouldn't be upset that a high ranking league official was deliberately and systematically leaking pieces of information to make the Patriots v look bad leading up to the Super Bowl? Sorry Rob but I'm calling bullish.t. I couldn't turn on the TV or radio in the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl because Mike Kensil was leaking pieces of information to the media to try and convict the Patriots in the public eye. That's on the league and they don't get a free pass because the media is corrupt.

At least you can admit that about yourself. try to step up your game.

It is a sign of a weak mind when you just need to go to insults rather than debating. Look in the mirror buddy.

The jets tampered with a first ballot HOF player and drove up his market value and price. And they continue to do so by leaking to their beat writers. You can give them a free pass, I'm not.

I think the league office knows this.......they are hoping the whole thing disappears on its own

Again, the league is just waiting to dump all their ruling at once.

Do you think the investigation to Deflategate is still going on and active. They may be waiting to interview a few people, but people aren't working on it every day. The league wants to just wait for the right time to dump these punishments when the media are either distracted or cannot turn it into a big media crap storm by dumping it late on Friday afternoon in a dead period when the media called it quits early.
The firm they hired to investigate this is billing hourly so I'm pretty sure that they're billing everyday. Whether or not they're actually doing something productive is another matter.

Again, you are talking about different issues. Yes,we should be upset that Kensil was leaking information and the league couldn't bottle it up. But what does that have to do with the Jets?

Being upset with how the league has handled Deflategate is one thing. The Jets' tampering charge is another. Why are we trying to connect the two? Different situation.

Nope. A first rounder is fine.

And why is that OK?

Rob, you are the one who lumped them all together so you tell me?

The Mehta report isn't tampering. If that is the case, the Pats have tampered with Brandon Marshall because John Clayton is reporting the Pats are interested in signing him if cut. Hell, the Dolphins are rumored to be the front runners for Suh. So they tampered. The Giants and Eagles are rumored to go after McCourty. So they tampered. Do we punish the whole league for these reports?

I am not giving the Jets a free pass. I am putting it in perspective. The Woody Johnson thing should be punished It is just a minor incident.

And why is that OK?

Why is it wrong for them to dump all the punishments at once if the punishments end up being fair? Until we see what the punishments are or aren't, we cannot cry favoritism.

No they aren't. They are a law firm. There are strict laws about billable hours. You cannot not charge for hours you didn't work. It is a little thing called fraud. You ever work at a law firm or a consulting company, they require you to keep detail records of your hours to the 15 minute mark and make you get your time cards signed by a superior.

Besides, why do we care if the league is throwing away money on an idle investigation? It isn't our money. In fact, it will probably take money out of Goodell's pocket since his bonus is probably tied to league expenses which is a good thing.
