Reminder:

As far as I know, the NFL has never checked balls at halftime (correct me if I'm wrong).

I do know there are no scientists or people with a brain in the NFL. They would not have PV = nRT on the mind, especially after being tipped off by Ravens/Colts, especially given the Pats are involved. At what point does the NFL test the possibility that the balls dropped from natural causes?? At what point do they question the Colts inflation practices and why their balls didn't drop - when physics (having yet to be broken by anyone) suggests they must have?

I'm not sure about balls, but I know physics don't lie.

Keep strong, Supafly. Even here in New England it's unbearable wherever you go there is whispers of cheating. Can't imagine what it's like elsewhere.

I was just thinking of that aspect the other day. At least most of you guys can band together as the majority and keep rooting for the team.

It sucks if you live outside the area, and even worse if you're in the middle of a rival fanbase. They are absolute vultures. They seriously think that something's wrong with me for supporting such a team.

The 4th official would have inflated the "offending" ball on the sideline and then carry on as normal, no "investigations" necessary.

Why the underinflate thing is even a rule is bizarre, as long as the ball holds shape when held it should be fine to use.

its the pats

its the superbowl

they are cheaters

Where I live, virtually everyone thinks it's a joke or doesn't care.
Maybe I live in a bubble or something, but here in socal nobody that I've talked to is taking this seriously either.

Still dont get this.

So they reinflated them at half bringing them back to normal, brady then goes out and has a beautiful 2nd half

thus if we were cheating, we didnt get any advantage from it.

I-R-R-E-L-E-V-A-N-T. Even the most hatery of the haterz (except the complete lunatic fringe) concedes it had no effect on the game. It's about the question of cheating or not (and yes, if NE really did alter the balls after the checkin, it's cheating).

Right or wrong, in many people's minds, if we cheat on that (and unlike Cameragate, this would be a violation of a black & white rule), then what other things are we cheating on that no one's been able to find out yet?

I think they very much would mind. This thing is on news channels right hours after breaking, I find it highly unlikely that it would not be a great big deal if they said they didn't check. After making a huge deal about this great big competitive advantage, to come out and say we don't check would be a great big black eye reported on every national news site. Not to mention the implications that they could only enforce it to intentionally give an advantage.

I respectfully disagree with you.

This whole thing could've been put to rest within the first 24-48 hrs if they had just stated that they were going to review the process in the offseason, and explained that they've simply been doing a visual inspection for years unless something seemed way off.

Who would really still be discussing this days later? Who would really expect the referees to scientifically weigh the air pressure of the football, absent a major crisis where the ball is noticeably deflated?

We all know the NFL and Goodell have no balls.

yeah opens the flood gates then on everything else imaginable

the Patriots ran a train on my wife last night. IM GUNNA SUE

Maybe I live in a bubble or something, but here in socal nobody that I've talked to is taking this seriously either.

I think there are plenty of areas like FL or CA where people in general don't really care much about anything, but it's definitely much different living in rival team's fanbases.

Even living in Indy wouldn't be as bad, since the people there are much nicer. Pittsburgh has to produce some of the worst fans and people in the entire nation in my opinion. Like I said, I can't go to the barbershop or anywhere there's a TV on (the vet hospital was another place on Weds.) where everyone isn't talking about it.

Apparently, they don't remember the 70s.

They could've/should've admitted this--if true, way back in the beginning. No one in the world would've given a damn if the refs claimed that they just squeezed the balls to check. Now they are in way too deep...forensic investigators, etc.

You can bet your ass they will want to know what the pressure was prior to the game. It's going to likely be the very first question.

And the NFL would simply lie and say it was 12.5 PSI.

The interesting thing is whether or not the ballboy saw the inspection when he handed the balls in. He'd know what they did. Of course the NFL could then just claim the refs did the gauging later.

Adam Schefter on Michael Kay: "The NFL is having a hard time implicating anyone in this, any fall guy. I don't know if they will ever find someone responsible. Therefore, the NFL might just decide to fine the Patriots as an organization without any proof of any wrongdoing."

If that happens, I'd be livid.

I'm transplanted here in Eastern PA. No one takes this seriously here.

Oh, I think that's the BEST case scenario that we're looking at.

No but a Ravens fan tried telling me today that it can be biassed to suit an agenda (i.e. natural causes for loss of pressure) LOL

They are jealous. Jealous that Tom Brady & co denied them two Super Bowl trips and have had their way with them in most regular season encounters.

I feel your pain bud. I'm in Pennsylvania too but in the northeastern area, so it's mostly Steeler fans mixed with Jets, Giants and Eagles fans. Everyone just rags on me. It's annoying as hell.

When it comes to football, that's a myth. I can't even wear any of my Pats jerseys out without someone throwing something on me. When I'm at the gym and Brady comes on the TV, he is literally boo'd by about half the gym. He is absolutely HATED here. It's insane.

I just don't like the precedent set saying, we don't have any evidence you did anything wrong, but we are going to punish you anyway because that's the popular sentiment and you just must have done something.

If that happens, there is as much evidence that poltergeist deflated the balls as any member of the Patriots' organization.
