Agreed. It is the responsibility of the refs to insure the balls are properly inflated. The Pats could give them totally flat balls, and the refs would need to inflate them to the proper pressure. If the balls were underinflated (as it seems they were) the blame falls solely and squarely on the refs

I'm not claiming that it's our fault. I actually think it was the weather, but I don't understand the "blame the refs theory," since the NFL has already confirmed today that the refs measured the ball pressure prior to the game---which is the entire reason why they are puzzled...hence the issue in the first place.

All you seem to be suggesting is that the balls were underinflated and that makes it the fault of the refs. What kind of sense does that make? They've already confirmed that the refs checked the balls properly prior to the start of the game. I'm not meaning to be argumentative, but I just don't understand your thinking here.

How do we know for sure that that the refs tested the balls they could be lying to save their buts are more than likely the NFL is lying because they would look terrible if the refs didn't do their jobs.

If the NFL truly wanted to explore all options in regards to what happened, they should've hired a non-biased scientist/physics professor to see if the weather played a factor.

Okay, sure--but that doesn't solve anything in the long run, unless you just want to "win" the internet.

There's no way that the NFL is going to admit any kind of mistake. Therefore it's the teams' problem, as well as the fans' problem. It's a shame, but probably true.

Ben Volin is now tweeting that someone in the NFL has confirmed that the original balls were inflated to the recommended range and used in the second half. Talk of backup balls are all BS.
So it appears the league did not really do any sting operation. I think they might have complicated the investigations as data is all corrupted hence the CSI type of **** they are now employing.
My own conjecture: 11 of the 12 were reinflated, the Colts kept the 12th ball.
If this is true, it may be that they added the air at the stadium, cold air in cold air stay in.
There will not be any pressure change. Why is this so hard for people to believe. Is the world this stupid? I am not saying this is what happen, I am saying there is another plausible explanation other than a human being actually letting the air out. That they may never find.

I thought it had been established that one of the original 12 wound up in the stands at Gillette after a Blount TD?

I think that was nothing but an early rumor, since now they have been saying that the 12th ball was still underinflated, but just nowhere near the amount of the other 11.

No they have NOT confirmed that the ref checked the balls properly.

Excerpt from the NFL's statement: The investigation began based on information that suggested that the game balls used by the New England Patriots were not properly inflated to levels required by the playing rules, specifically Playing Rule 2, Section 1, which requires that the ball be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch. Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game.

Are you noticing what's missing?? If the ref had indeed checked he balls properly, they would have also been able to say that the pressures were found to be "X". They did not do so. Read the statement again...they very carefully worded it so the reader would take away that assumption. The big question hinges on how the ref confirmed that the aforementioned standard had been met. That detail is missing...isn't it? So the following question remains: what does the NFL mean by the phrase "confirm that this standard is satisfied"???

I don't understand why they keep saying "11 of 12" when it's been stated that 24 balls were prepped due to the weather conditions.

Were the other 12 just backup balls that weren't in the first half rotation? Were all 24 balls in the rotation? Were all 24 balls tested at halftime? If only 12 were in the first half rotation, were the backup balls under-inflated despite not being used?

This is seriously the dumbest f*cking "scandal" of all-time.

I had not heard that

They went through a very brief update on the status of the investigation. Just because they didn't go through an extensive scientific breakdown of each and every ball and its PSI report doesn't mean they are suddenly going to admit any mistakes made by the league.

If you hadn't noticed, the NFL has had a pretty rough year, and that includes Goodell. They aren't going to do anything to make him or the league look bad.

They've already made it abundantly clear that the refs properly did their jobs, which is why they are confused in the first place. Even if the refs didn't do their jobs, they aren't going to admit it. Haven't you seen Goodell's work in the past?

I don't believe they actually say there and pursue tested 48 game balls, I believe they squeeze tested them and are calling that "checking the game balls." absent actual documentation I will continue to believe that.

NFL clarifies that the officials re-inflated the original footballs at halftime, and that they didn’t use the backup balls

Still dont get this.

So they reinflated them at half bringing them back to normal, brady then goes out and has a beautiful 2nd half

thus if we were cheating, we didnt get any advantage from it.
