2014 Patriots Playoff Preview: This is Brady and Belichick's Best Shot At a Title

Ian Logue

This has got to be the year. It has to be. There's just no other way to say it.

I would have to say yes, this team and year mya be the best shot at winning another SB since 04. They finally have a defense and the team is the healthyest its been in many years.

Definitely as complete a team as we have fielded (for the playoffs) in some time.

Despite the work he did in week 17, I'm not sure if seeing Tyms is a good thing. Unless they see something they can exploit with a fairly simplistic route (assuming the Oline can protect Brady log enough for a play like that to develop...too many ifs for me).

I can't wait till the Seahawks blow it against the Cowboys, or maybe even Carolina. You chicken littles are hilarious.

Not sure it is a matter of being "chicken little".. Seattle has everything that has killed this team in the past.. Strong pass rush w 4, lock down man to man coverage across the board.. It is no secret, no magic potion.. It is what it is .. Plus we have the "Belichick out Belichicking" himself factor..

That killed us when we couldn't stop a nose bleed. We can score 20 against Seattle and win now.

Edit: Seattle will also show you a lot more Zone than man. If that matchup happens, watch out for Lafell making plays on the outside of their cover 3 shell.

Don't be so ****y.... you remind me of Denver's fans last year.... Seattle's pass rush will absolutely murder our O-line.

LaFell can only show up if the O-line does.... and right now... even with Solder at LT, god help us against that pass rush.

Does Seattle play strict "man"? I thought I read that they played a combo. Lots of Cover 3/Cover 1.

Meh. This team has been in position almost every year to win a SB. I don't see that stopping anytime soon.

True, but not with this much talent or as deep as they are this year, along with a roster that includes Darrelle Revis, a healthy Gronk etc. This is about as good as it's ever been, which if you read the entry (which I put a lot of effort into ) is the premise of the article.

I did, Ian. Well done!

I understand your point to be that because of the overall level of talent the roster has that when compared to years past, it is in the best position of all to win the SB.

I think my point is that just because a team is tremendously talented- as this current edition is, I don't subscribe to the notion that this is their best shot.

If its one thing that this org has proven over the years is its ability to draft, acquire talent to fill team needs and coach that talent to be competitive enough to win a SB every year.

Agreed, a lot has gone right this season from relative fortune injury wise, to outstanding depth, or to 3 true difference makers who are arguably in the top 25 players in the NFL. It'll be hard to replicate this again especially after an offseason this year where we figure to lose talent rather than gain talent.

With that being said, the offense needs to find a way to get itself back into the form that it had in the middle of the season. When the Pats are clicking offensively like they can they're virtually unbeatable.

I'm ****y for saying Seattle will lose? How does me commenting on a team from a different conference make me ****y about New England? Can't wait to hear this one.

My greatest concern is the psychological test. How will Bill and Brady cope with the 'best chance for a 4th ring' gorilla on their backs?

The 2010 team was on such a roll. Yet that unstoppable offense just didn't show up in the div game, and mental mistakes abounded.

Having a health, talented, well rounded team won't count for much if they psych themselves out in the big games.

Perhaps you should find another team to root for. Oops, looks like you already have.

The least you could do is acknowledge the logic behind Ian's detailed writeup. Or couldn't you bother yourself to read it?

The unstoppable offense did not show up in the last two Super Bowls as well as the 2012 and 2013 AFCCG's. That said, I think this team has a better defense than those four.

And the one common denominator is TFB ... He needs to step up .. Plain and Simple ..
