Howe: Patriots considering placing Easley on IR

I was hoping they'd use their newfound depth at DT to give him a couple weeks off.

As someone who went through a rather brutal (several) knee surgeries, I can guess and sympathize what Easley's going through. he's probably swelling up like a balloon 9and it hurts like hell) whenever he puts too much pressure on the knee.

He probably needs some more time to just let the knee calm down. Really sucks, but such is life in the NFL.

Surprising that something like that would leak. I mean, how many people on the Patriots would know they're thinking about that? It's got to be either BB or Kraft. That's damn good sources.

This sucks. Depth is key. Lucky we picked up Branch and Jones should be back soon or this week. As long as there are no other injuries...i won't be too upset. But must be frustrating to him. Get healthy and come back strong next year

This was always a distinct possibility when drafting him, unfortunately. Hopefully he can get healthy. I would love to see what he can do fully healthy.

What would they gain by IRing him? They could send him to a spa until the playoffs and it would be the same thing. Any player picked up now would probably never even be active.

Call me cynical, but I'm guessing Howe took the fact that he's not practicing and Jones is coming back and is rolling the dice that Easley's hurt more than we know and hoping for a scoop.

If he's wrong, it's just another forgotten article.

::Waits for some chicken little to call him a bust so I can respond asking them does that mean Clowney is a bust too::

Uh, are you saying Clowney is not going to be a bust?

Dude was an awful pick and is going to remembered as one of the biggest busts of all-time when it's all said and done. It already appears his first 2 years will be a complete waste. Then you're banking on a low work ethic guy who relies 100% on talent instead of hard work to make a comebcak from one of the worst injuries there is?

As for Easley, this isn't surprising at all. Did not like the pick when it was made and hate it even more now. Injury prone guy spends most of season injured and ends on IR. Shocking.

Belichick likes having flexibility in his roster spots, being able to call up a special teamer or linebacker as needed. In any case, if he can't play, he should and will be placed on IR.

To put it another way, why should Belichick volunteer to have a 52 man roster when everyone else has 53?

Considering how few snaps Easley is playing, it really wouldn't be a big difference just having him inactive. If the guy who would replace him is on the PS it makes even less sense to put him on IR.

Only if they feel Easley has virtually no chance of returning this year does it make sense.

We new his knee problems when we got him, might be a precaution so he can get it right. Its a shame

Not a huge loss, easley was only seeing spot duty, and really with Ayers playing as good as he is it makes sense to shut the rookie down and let the people who are producing produce.

Hey. Shut up.
