2015 NFL Mock Drafts

I like that Fowler pick. he's a prospect that I think BB will like.
i think BB will like him a lot although I'm not huge on him, O-line is a major need but so is DE, Calhoun is my favorite DE in '15

Hard to argue with Fowler if he's available in the 1st. There might be other guys on my short list, but he'd have to be up there.

Florida St. OL Cameron Erving has taken a bit of a hit to his draft stock according to many draftniks. If he slips to the 2nd, I think he'd be an excellent T/G combo pick. Very athletic, still ironing out the technical aspects of his game.
I think a T that translates to a G (like Mankins) will be selected by NE in '15 rather high

My Mock Draft

Round 1: Trade up to draft Amari Cooper
If this season continues going south this is more of a reality, Cooper would be great catching passes from TB12, my top 3 offensive weapons that fit NE for this draft are Cooper, Abdullah, and Jamison Crowder to a lesser degree.

Regarding the conversation above, I think Abdullah is a great talent and a potential future NFL star and obvious Heisman candidate that I'd love in NE, but I don't see him fitting that well in BAL like you all do, he's a great weapon, yes, but Flacco requires some deep targets for his arm strength, BAl will look for more of a workhorse RB (Gurley, Gordon) than scatback like Abdullah, Abdullah can reach his full potential in NO, PHI, KC, SD, and NE, not there's needs there

Love Erving/Matias in the 2nd, Brown in the 3rd, and Tomlinson in the 4th. Also love the Walford pick. If it played out like that I'd be stoked.

I assume we'll get a 3rd round comp pick for Talib, and probably a 6th round pick as well. I don't think we have a 7th.

My tweaking of your very fine preliminary mock:

1st round: BPA on defense (Bernardrick McKinney and Arik Armstead stand out to me right now if we are picking later in the round; Shawn Oakman, Dante Fowler and Landon Collins could be options if our pick is higher)
2nd round: Cam Erving/Josue Matias, OL, Florida St.
3rd round: Malcolm Brown, RB, Texas
3rd round (comp): Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma
4th round (from TB): Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke
4th round: Best defensive back; Durrell Eskridge might be nice, or Jaquiski Tartt
5th round: Clive Walford, TE, Miami
6th round: I'd be thrilled with Anthony if we didn't go with McKinney earlier
6th round (comp):

I'd be pretty stoked with a draft that build around both lines, with something like Armstead/Phillips on DL and Erving/Tomlinson on OL.

It's tough to break in a lot of youngsters on the line. They don't really have the strength and technique to compete right away. I'd like to sign a veteran for one guard spot. Draft that g/t combo guy to back-up Connolly at the other. Hope Fleming can back-up Sea Bass in case of injury.

Kind of the same thing on the DL. Seems like Oakman and Armstead would be a good fit for the DL. Play a little LDE in the 4-3. Slide inside when we go nickel and move Hightower up outside whichever one we pick. Not afraid to trade up here either with an extra 3 and 4.

I think that's a reasonable line of thought, though I want to see what happens this season and with the guys who are slated to be UDFAs. I'd be happy to bring a solid veteran guard in if one is available. Right now I don't see a very strong free agent class.

Those are definitely my 2 favorite guys for the DL at this early point. Dante Fowler is a different type of player.

While I wouldn't turn away most of the above prospects, I still believe that we need to draft a WR,
a good one this time, preferably with size.

The last few drafts have been loaded with wr's. We struck out. It doesn't appear this is as good a year. Definitely don't want to reach at that position given our track record of drafting them. Just bleepin pay someone. Agree with Mayo about using this draft to fix the lines with early picks.

I'll wait on the compensatory draft picks until the official announcements for now. You are correct that the New England Patriots do not have a 7th round selection.

I expect the New England Patriots to draft near the bottom of the first round (29-32).

I'll puke if the New England Patriots select another defensive back especially when the New England Patriots currently have twelve on the 53 man roster.

I'm thru with Hooman as a tight end for the New England Patriots, since he has been god awful this season and offers little to nothing in the passing game.

IDK the players yet but here is my order for positions. (assuming we keep Vereen/McCourty/Revis/Cannon/Siliga).

I will assume Connolly/Ridley are gone.

#1 - DL (Wilfork replacement or a good DE)
#2 - OT (Solder replacement for next year)
#3 - OG (Connolly replacement)
#4 - LB
#4 - RB
#5 - S
#6 - WR

Even a big, physical safety with ball skills who can start opposite McCourty? That would seem a reasonable position to target in 2015. I really don't see Harmon, Wilson or Chung being the solution. Ebner seems to be developing nicely as a LB/S hybrid in the dime, but unless he makes a huge step forward, I still want to address that position.

I would rather shore up the offensive and defensive lines than potentially waste yet another draft pick on a safety. Sealver Siliga, Casey Walker, Joe Vellano don't entice me at the defensive tackle position. Jordan Devey, Josh Kline, Chris Barker, Caylin Hauptmann have shown to be a complete waste of time. In summary, I personally believe football games are won in the trenches with quality athletes, not with a pile of undrafted free agent scrubs.

As a footnote, defensive ends Michael Buchanan and Zach Moore have been underwhelming to date.

I agree that shoring up the offensive and defensive lines is a higher priority. I think I had a safety taken in the 4th round, after spending 2 picks on each side of the line. I personally wouldn't ignore the position entirely.

McCourty - 2010 1st Round
Chung - 2009 2nd Round
Wilson - 2012 2nd Round
Harmon - 2013 3rd Round
Ebner - 2012 6th Round
Jones - 2013 7th Round (Miami Dolphins)

Six safeties currently on the 53 man roster and not one undrafted free agent.

The New England Patriots selected Jemea Thomas in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft only to be cut.

Yup. Not an impressive track record, aside from McCourty (and Ebner is working out quite nicely). But all the more reason to address the safety position at some point, whether in FA or the draft. And with Revis and McCourty being priorities, I can't see the Pats spending on a FA DB.

Again, it's not my priority compared with the lines, but I think it still gets addressed at some point.

The New England Patriots can sign all the collegiate priority UDFAs to potentially upgrade the safety position.

Until the offensive and defensive lines have been upgraded, including the backups, wasting yet another draft pick on yet another safety is pure folly.

That's one end of the spectrum. Others will probably go so far as to see a safety opposite McCourty as one of our biggest needs. I'm personally somewhere in-between. I'm still gnashing my teeth over drafting Jon Halapio over Antone Exum - I think Exum would have eventually solved that position problem for us.

One potential day 3 sleeper that I'm very interested in FCS SS Jaquiski Tartt from Stamford (6'1" 218#). Here's a 2013 highlight clip:

Obviously only highlights, and he's playing against low level competition, but he has nice size, physicality, and seems to move well. I'm hoping to see some more of him over the next few months.
