Thompkins was the team's WR5. He has 38 catches, supposedly on 80 targets, in his NFL career. Let's not pretend they just cut Jerry Rice in his prime.
Cut one of your only outside the numbers WR's for a special teamer...sounds about right.
Wow..what a shocker, especially with Kenbrell Thompkins being on the "Jerry Rice" training program all summer long and ready to be a top 10 NFL wide receiver
Why?
Thompkins was a healthy scratch the last few weeks. Furthermore, Ebner is a core player on special teams, so his absence will be missed, which is why they promoted Davis to help out in that area.
I'll go out on a limb here and say Sunday's game will not hinge on Ebner's absence. If it does, we're in worse shape than even I thought. Nate Ebner doesn't come across as one of those "difficult to replace" type players.
As highlighted by Mike Loyko on Twitter, KT's stats after week 6 of last year until now read as:
17 Catches -- 201 yards -- 0 TDs
Good luck with the future KT.
There is no way KT makes it through waivers. He is significantly better than most wr3s in this league and even some 2s (Jets, Carolina etc).
This isn't a case like Edelman who was put on the PS and didn't have the clout to show up on teams radars. People have seen the tape on this guy and he really flashes significant promise.
