So Brady gets the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones gets the AFC Defensive Player of the Month. Congrats to both. Old needs for Tommy, but it is good to see Chandler finally get his due.

From Christopher Price:

Love that Eugene Wilson was the last Patriot to win AFC Defensive Player of Month. Maybe the last guy I would have picked.

It is not only surprising that the last time a Patriot player won AFC Defensive player of the month in 2004, but that it was Eugene Wilson who won it.

I'm happy for Chandler and I believe he deserves recognition. I also watch a ton of games and cannot fathom making him the pick over Muhammed Wilkerson. Yeah, he's a freakin' Jet but he's the most dominant player on defense in the AFC... AFAIC...and has been all season.

Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

BTW, Chandler is only 4.5 sacks away from taking Garvin Veris' Patriots record of most sacks in the first two years for a Patriot player.

It really wasn't Chandler for Wilkerson though. Yeah, the pick they traded away could have been used on Wilkerson and it ended up being used on Chandler the following year. But they could have drafted Wilkerson over Solder too.

Don't forget that Wilkerson has been in the league one year longer than Jones. They are kinda having a similar career trajectories. Wilkerson was very good last year, but not the elite player he has become this year. Perhaps Jones becomes an elite, DPOY type of defender next year with a little more polish.

Remember that Jones came into the league very raw. He still has some room to grow as a player.

I meant player of the month, Rob...the draft is far too long ago for my three brain cells to dredge up memories.

My bad. Reading comprehension isn't my strong point. It could be that the Jets' defense has been awful the last few weeks. Even though Wilkerson is a stud, he isn't doing enough to cover up for one of the worst secondaries in the league.

Awesome news for Ch Jones; can't say I saw this coming. Maybe now he'll start getting some calls.

Re: Brady AFC Offensive Player of the Week and Chandler Jones AFC Def. Player of Mont

Not surprising about Brady but Jones' selection is. He's performed well but didn't think he was the best in the AFC during November.

I know this is hindsight, and that Solder is a very good player, but that year we could have had Wilkerson and Aldon Smith, Or Wilkerson and Cameron Jordan. It is what it is, i was bummed the whole season over that draft. This team Really needed some help on the D-line and we failed to correct that situation And that year the draft was packed with D-line prospects that would turn out to be very good, even great. Oh, that was the year we took Ras I IR list

Chandler Jones needs to learn that hand slap move from von miller and he'll be unstoppable.

You know Aldon Smith went 7 overall right? Did you see what the Falcons had to give up to move ahead of SF at 6 to get Julio Jones?

Smith was never an option.

Yeah, a real bummer BB didn't draft Aldon Smith

Belichick turned his two first rounds picks in that draft into Solder, Vereen, and most of Jones. That's really worth complaining about?

Besides, Solder started 13 games as a rookie. If Belichick had passed on him, then who is starting all of those games, Steve Maneri?

Wilkerson has been dominant, but he has a better supporting cast on the D-Line than Jones has. Jones has more tackles and more sacks, yet he get's double and triple teamed because he really doesn't get as much help as Wilkerson does. That tells you how great a season Jones has been having, Jones has 15 more tackles. I live in NY, and see the Jets every week, I do agree with you that Wilkerson is a beast in his own right. But he has #1 draft pick Sheldon Richardson (another beast), Damon Harrison takes up a lot of space, Calvin Pace and Quentin Coples coming off the edge. They are very good against the run, though sometimes suspect against the pass due to their below average secondary. If they don't get pressure, they give up a lot of points.

You lost me on Coples and Pace. Both are average at best.

Speaking of Coples, how much is Rex kicking himself for taking him over Chandler Jones. Imagine their defensive front if you swapped Coples for Chandler?

If the Jets hadn't spent most of the month getting blown out (much to our delight), I have to think that Wilkerson would have won it. I agree that the guy's a monster.

Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson are dominant. Damon Harrison is also pretty good. But none of the Jets' linebackers are especially good. Don't get me wrong, they're serviceable, but Pace and Coples coming off the edge doesn't (and shouldn't) scare anyone.

I agree that Wilkerson is surrounded by a better supporting cast than Chandler, primarily because of our injuries at DT. Beyond that, though, I also think that he's currently a better player, although they're very different in what they do. Wilkerson is Seymour-esque.

At his weekly presser, Brady sporting a sizable bandage on his right elbow.

makes his performance that much more impressive.
