I am unsure so maybe someone here knows. When the Pats made the offer to Emmanuel Sanders were they allowed to work him out? If so, did they? I know he was an RFA and don't know if the rules for visits are different than that of UFA.

Once again, like Andre Carter, I'd love him on the team as a mentor. Just think of all the techniques he could show Jones, Jones, Buchanon and Bequette (who resembled Allen stylewise in college). I think Minny would want a lot for him though. I think he has more in the tank than Carter.

I'd say at the very least a 3rd and 6th round pick.

The rules for RFAs who haven't signed their tenders (which includes Sanders, since the Pats couldn't have signed him to an offer sheet if he already signed the tender) should be identical to those for UFAs.

Still don't know if the Pats will trade for a WR. I don't know if there is any WR who can get up to speed with this offense quick enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if they inquire about Gonzalez on the other hand. They can build a package around him and he probably veteran and experienced enough to get on the same page with Brady quickly.

I don't see Jared Allen as a possibility. Not a huge need and the Pats aren't going to give up what the Vikes are looking for.

I don't know if they go after a DT. If Kelly returns by at least the first game after the bye, I don't think it is as big of an area of need as a lot of people think. If they can get a good DT at the right price, I can see it possibly happening. But I don't know if the DT position is as pressing of a need as a lot do.

I wonder if they go after a coverage LB (which may be the biggest need on defense) and who is available who fits that build. Maybe the Jags would give up Paul Posluzny. Although his contract sucks.

Reminder: Jared Allen's cap hit for the rest of the season is about $7.5M. The Pats have just under $6M in cap room.

Nicks- Sure but for a half a season and a highdraft pick? He is a goner in the off-season someone will offer more money and we wont match thus no go.

Gordon- Sure but again for a high pick and one piss away for an annual suspension? We take risks we just don't take risks while giving high picks.

P.Taylor- Sure but are the Browns about to give him up? I think not.

So that leads me to Gonzo for a 4th. A 4th that BB can get back with his annual draft day trade backs. A 4th that will give you the ability to absolutely terrorize an opposing D as the Pats come at them with Gronk and Gonzo on every play. Whom do you double cover and if you do do that those WR on the outside having a field day. Imagine a red zone situation with those beasts coming at you. A major mismatch.

Given investment aka 4th rounder that you can get back and given immediate impact in my mind this is the most logical move albeit short term. Now will it happen hell no because it makes so much sense.

P.S. Got chills writing this post.

Would the fact that the Pats play the Steelers this week make any deal for Sanders unlikely?

Really wouldn't be surprised if Lombardi gave Belichick a deal for Josh Gordon

I doubt it'd prevent them from doing it, but it adds an awfully interesting dynamic. At 2-5 with Sanders almost surely leaving in free agency anyway, I think the Steelers would just be happy to get a somewhat valuable pick for him.

What do you think they'd get in compensation. any offer would have to be higher than that presumably. It's interesting that they gave up a 3rd rounder in a trade with Cleveland in last years draft so I'm sure they'd be keen to get that back (although that's too strong for me).

Sanders is an unrestricted free agent after this season. He's likely gone for nothing, so if they could get even a late round pick at this point I could see them parting with him. Though maybe not to the Patriots.

Sanders is an upgrade over Kenbrell Thompkins, at least. I love Josh Gordon, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I would be sad if we make a trade and it's for anything other than a DT. I doubt Phil Taylor is available. Linval Joseph could be a possibility but is he that good for a potentially only half season rental?

The likelihood we get Emmanuel Sanders during the week we play the Steelers is 0.01%.

But there's a chance they get a compensatory draft pick, no?

But there's a chance they get a compensatory draft pick, no?

Compensatory picks aren't worth as much as non-compensatory picks because they can't be traded. And even ignoring that fact, getting a compensatory pick would require them not to sign anyone to balance him out, would be put off until the following year, and would likely be much lower than they would get in a trade.

But, as VrabelJr pointed out, the chance the Steelers would trade Sanders to the Patriots this week is infinitesimally small, and would have been small even if they weren't playing each other.
