It's easy, and only takes a few moments. They just offered him a multi year deal that he turned down, in order to gamble on himself and receive a better payday at the end of the season. Actually, there were 3 teams that were reported to offer him multi year deals. One was NE, and another was WAS. The third team was never reported as far as I know.
I doubt that the front office/BB would increase their offer substantially enough at this point in time for Talib to feel comfortable enough to sign anytime soon. He'll be waiting it out to see what the market does on the first day of the free agent period and then go from there.
While we may not end up retaining Talib, we may find that bringing in something that resembles him (in terms of ability to play sufficient man coverage) is enough to continue building upon the current success that we've seen lately.

I don't understand your thinking that players who play sufficient man coverage comparable to Talib can be drafted by the Patriots or easily found on the market. You have no understanding of the Patriots history of drafting defensive backs.
We have a legit coverage guy for the first time since Samuel, and he might be better. And there are fans who are ready to flippantly get rid of him. Unbelievable. He's made our defense much, much better. Reiss has a great piece explaining this. Re-sign Talib. He's proving his worth.
Do you have the link to that? I didn't see it in the offseason, so I am curious as to the details of the report (everything I read said 1-year offer by Pats due to concerns associated with Talib).
