Week 2: Patriots vs Jets

Do you think Amendola is going to play? I can't see it frankly. He kept it going yesterday, probably on adrenaline, but today I'm sure that groin is mighty sore.

Yes. Amendola reminds me of Welker, other than his back-to-back injury years, and this is the sort of thing that a Welker/Amendola fights through unless the coaches refuse to put him on the field.

24/7 massages by Pats cheerleaders will ease any pain.
Hey! He could be faking injury just to get the rehab treatment!

LOL, quit projecting your own rehab fantasies onto Amendola!!

Coach Rex Ryan announced that Geno Smith will start the game and that Mark Sanchez will again be inactive because of the shoulder injury he suffered in the third preseason game. Ryan also confirmed that Sanchez will be getting another opinion on the shoulder this week — Sanchez reportedly has a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which was also reportedly dislocated on the hit by former Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin — in hopes of coming up with a firmer timeline for his return to work.

I'm with Deus on this one. Cromartie struggles with the smaller, shiftier WR's. He could never cover Welker (not many could, but still), yet held his own very well against Moss. If Dobson plays this week, I'd put Cromartie on HIM, even though he's the biggest unknown. It's just a better matchup for Cro.

I think we're going overboard with the offense. Two red zone fumbles, one of which was returned for a TD, made it look worse than it really was. Ultimately, the O marched down the field when they needed to and got the W. I don't think the Jets gameplan changes much this year in comparison to every year since Ryan has been there. Sometimes the gameplan works, sometimes it doesn't.

Maybe the rookies aren't as good as we hoped; maybe they're rookies who were playing in their first real game and having their "welcome to the NFL" moment. I'm not comfortable assuming one way or the other right now.

The Bills are just as talented, if not more so, as the Jets up front, though the talent on the Bills front isn't adding up. They're way too poor against the run considering who they have in the trenches.

The Jets D-line is solid, and I don't think Vereen's capable of beating a team singlehandedly.

Edelman's going to need to be huge this game, if Ryan covers the way I listed.

I also like Vereen in this game but as a reciever as opposed to a runner. I particularly think Vereen matches up well against the Jets linebackers in coverage. He won't be the surprise he was against the Jets last year, but to me he creates a matchup problem against the Jets defense. Also, for the Pats the red zone was the issue yesterday and will be Thursday (IMO). I hope Sudfeld shows up and gives Tom a reason to develop some confidence in him.

The Pats D should have a good game. I think the Bills skill players (Spiller, Jackson,Johnson and even Manuel) are a step above the Jets. I am hoping the Pats D can keep the score low enough so that field goals are enough to be the diffference (early prediction 26 - 17 Pats (Pats get two TD and 4 field goals - Jets second TD is a late score with the game in hand)

Crap. Did you just see the news on Vereen? Broken wrist.

:noidea:

Maybe, instead of that, you just could start to grasp the concepts of message boards, matchups, analysis, debates and discussions.

I've seen the way you "debate" people ;)

One game is not enough for me to think that you can shut the new patriots offense down by playing man coverage.

Well, given that my posts began with

Based on this past game:

expressly included, you probably just should have stayed out of it then.

This is one ugly box score: Watch Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Jets [09/08/2013] - NFL.com

Jets against Bucs 9-8-2013

Net yards rushing 90
Yards per run: 3.1
Geno had a nice day: 24 of 38 with no interceptions

Buccaneers gift-wrapped this one for the Jets
Buccaneers penalties: 13 for -102 yards
Buccaneers fumbles 3 - lost 1
Buccaneers intercepted 1

If the Patriots can hold onto the ball, they'll be fine. Turnovers leave the door open even for the worst teams.

Just saw that - bad news..

I do not think Ridley is anywhere near as good a reciever and agree with prior comments that this is a tough defense to run at. I liked a quick small back covered by a linebacker and I think our qb is as good as any at exposing that matchup.

I think Bolden is the next best option but he has been hurt as well and at least to me isn't nearly as quick.

Well the rookies are being given every opportunity to improve...

Edited to add. Maybe they use Leon Washington in the role of rb/reciever as I forgot they bought him back. To me this is a significant downgrade on Vereen who simply presents more versatility at this point in each career. I am also hoping that the Sudfeld hammy issue explains the no show performance.

If we combine Fells and the recently injured Sudfeld, we get 3/4 of a healthy TE.

The line on this game is just dumb. I hope we blow them out, but the offense is so damaged I'll take 17-10.

They are what they are. I'd be disappointed if they weren't talking. It would be weird.
