Mike Francesa: Belichick can't surpass Noll or Walsh; Pats never a dynasty

Francesa is good friends with Parcells. He had trashed Kraft about everything since 1996 and Belichick since he left the Jets in 2000. Nothing to see here. I am surprised that he didn't argue that the Pats weren't even a good team over the last decade or so and those Super Bowl wins and appearances were just flukes.

Who cares? Another pathetic mediot trying to get attention.

But I do agree with Francesc about one thing:

They were built in the new era, so I don't really know how to judge them in any way but to judge them now.

Who cares if BB's lost 2 SB's by a combined 6 points, based on a freak catch and other circus catch? The Steelers and 49ers were built in the pre-FA and salary cap era, and had none of the constraints BB has had to operate under. They didn't have to deal with constant personnel turnover. They both build talented teams, and then rode those teams as long as they could. There are only 2 guys who are constant between 2001 and now: BB and Brady. The rest has turned over, and usually more than once.

If you judge them against teams since 1993, there's no comparison. No one's come remotely close in the last 20 years.

The Patriots ARE an ongoing dynasty. They've been to 5 SB's in 10 yrs. Had an undefeated regular season. (history will view that 18 - 0 record with much greater respect than it gets now) They have been dominant in their sport for over a decade......and they're not done.
Belichick's accomplishments will be a viewed as greater than Walsh or Noll because the only constant throughout has been the QB. Kept his team at the highest level while rebuilding it. Both Walsh and Noll has the same core group of players during their run. Not so with Belichick.
Mike Francesa is a pompous ass and Parcells houseboy. He's not respected by anyone.

Also worth noting, from Reiss' quick hits:

Since the NFL moved to a 12-team playoff format in 1990, the No. 1 seed in the AFC has compiled a 13-10 record in the divisional playoffs.

Different era with different rules. Hard to compare. I don't care much, personally. BB will probably still be winning SB's after Francesca's in a casket.

A frustrated Jets Fan, take it for what it is worth..
He despises the Jets, loves the Giants and admits he dislikes BB. He really is a blowhard.

Mike Francesca... this guy is a paid professional writer? His thought-process comes off as an illogical knee-jerk who should be blogging from his bedroom, not writing columns for some news org.

Not to defend the guy or anything, but Francesa isn't a writer, he's the most well known sportsradio host in the history of... well... sportsradio. He's been the cornerstone host on WFAN Sportsradio 66 AM New York since 1986, The Year One for sportsradio. Flagship host in the biggest media market on Earth.
Where do some of you guys live? Under a rock in Oshkosh? lol.

And like one or two other people have stated, Francesa was good friends with Parcells, spending time at each other's houses and such. He's got a huge bias against Belichick in order to protect Parcells' legacy as far as building The Pats in the 90's. He'll never acknowledge The Pats dominance under Bill.

But he sure ain't a nobody. He pulls longer shifts than any other sportsradio host. 1-6:30 Monday thru Friday, & 9-Noon Sundays. And that's in Gotham, where there's more people in line wanting to step in & take your position.
Guy's an institution where it matters.
It's just about taking away credit from Belichick to placate his buddy Parcells.
That's what's really going on.

Let's go to other sports for frames of reference. Would anyone deny that Bill Russell's Celtics of 1957-69 were a dynasty? Yet even they lost once in the finals..(1958)
How about Casey Stengel's Yankees of the 1950's. They were only 7-3 in World Series play. Babe Ruth's World Series record was only 7-3..Somehow they were dynasties but the coach who guides 5 teams in 10 years to the Super Bowl and wins three ( if not for a miracle catch, more) and it's not a dynasty.....Let's hope they win at least one more to put this to bed, once and for all....
Oh yeah, in the salary cap era as well....

Andy Warhol's claimed everybody can have 15 minutes of fame based on individual phenomenon. An analogy is an individual can transmit insignificance exponentially through the Internet.

DI, you make the mistake of thinking facts matter to this smarmy b!+ch of a '"writer" (or to the majority of mediots).
Fyi, I'm using an insult to name this guy because of the timing of his article. A huge game for the Patriots starts in a few hours. Instead of a common blowhard article on who will win or lose, he uses this time to not only diminish BB/patriots if they win, even if they go to the SB and win, but to make sure the accomplishment is not up to par. He's a punk....

Francesa is a Rats fan; what else does he have?

Remember, in the rodent world "18-1" is a witty comeback and a putdown, instead of being recognized as the gr8est accomplishment in the modern pro football era.

right, Pats just should have starting sucking after their 3rd Superbowl so they could pass Francesa's dynasty test.

Im from New York and usually watch his show when im bored, and while he does have some valid points, he is incredibly biased to the Giants and Yankees.

Hes a Giants fan he hates the Jets and Mets

Here's my question. Why do we feel the need to violently react to every negative comment by some agenda driven mediot? I mean EVERY one of them. To quote the great guru, "it is what it is". There are always going to be haters.

Who here loved the Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys, or the Bulls, or any of the those great teams that consistently won over a long period of years, or any other team that won and didn't have BOSTON emblazoned on their jerseys. Didn't we come to hate the Steelers and their smug front running fan base. Why? because they always seemed to win. And that smug front running fanbase that we grew to hate, are what WE are now to the rest of the league.

So when a Giant's loving, and self appointed protector of the Parcells legacy (such that it is) pens an article that is puts the Pats and BB in a negative light, and elevates the Giants and Parcells, why are we SHOCKED and pissed.

We should be laughing at this

To his credit, Mike Francesa has been relevant in a really rough NY market for YEARS. I remember listening to Mike and the Mad Dog back when I was in 8th grade. I'm 34 now, and he dropped the dead weight from his show (Chris Russo was an idiot and a complete Mets homer) and is actually better now than now having to put up with Mad Dog's "Yeah, I don't know Mikey..." every time Mike said anything.

That being said, Mike is a baseball guy and is alright with college basketball and the NBA. But take anything he says about football (unless talking about his Giants) with enough grains of salt to fill the Grand Canyon. While I do see his point about the Super Bowl losses, if Belichick can win 5 Mike's whole argument will be a moot point.

I may have hated the teams such as the Yankees, Steelers, etc., but I also had a lot of respect for them. It takes a lot to get to a world championship game and these teams were successful in that endeavor.

Even the NY Giants, OMG deserve our respect. Still allowed to hate them, but they got to the final games and won. It may be a fluke play or bad officiating, but I have always held to the credo that our team should have scored enough that they do not have to worry about a bad call or a fluke play. I may be crazy, but for example one fluke play or bad call would not have made a difference in our game with Houston this year.

If the Patriots take care of business today I don't think it will matter. I am not saying it will or is easy. Just they have the capability.

Go Pats.

I love the "the Patriots only won their SBs by three points" knock.

So, what does it mean when the Giants only beat the Bills by only 1 in SB25? Is that victory somehow invalid? How about NY only beating the Patriots by 3 in SB42? Do they get smaller rings for that?
Well thats different, it doesn't count. But this douche bag is just looking for the attention and hits on the article in the first place.

He's infinitely WORSE without Russo--his blowhard tendencies have been allowed to really bloom and take over his show.

If Belichick Brady win #4, they take the top position historically. It will become so clear that any naysayers will be just comic, really.

And the road to 4 starts today.
