I hope this makes everyone feel better. Assuming that Yeatman can make the switch from Lacrosse player to capable offensive tackle in just 3 years. By the time he comes a starter with a reasonable resume, he will be in the last year of his rookie contract. So Yeatman may very soon be able to come home to Pappa Dante, but as a finished product. Let the Dolphins waist 4 years and a roster spot to develop Yeatman into a player.
That's the beauty of the FA system. Players you add from that area of supply are more expensive than most draft picks, but come without the inherent risks. By that time they will have had 4 years in some NFL program. The benefit of a full time off season program, NFL coaching, and lots and lots of film playing against NFL competition.
Wise shopping in the different levels of the FA market can be just as impactful, if not more so. than the crap shoot that is the NFL draft.
Yes its frustrating to see a kid like Yeatman make progress in someone else's program, but istn't it better to get him back AFTER the Dolphins put in all the work to get him to that level. Its just like Danny Woodhead. The Jets did all the work to develop him from a divisioin 2 player to an NFL quality RB, and we've gotten all the production. Think of Yeatman in that vein and you'll feel better
