BostonHerald.com - Blogs: The Blitz»» Jerod Mayo misses first practice of season

Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo missed his first practice of the season today after suffering an injury during Sunday’s victory against the Jets. Mayo injured his left arm in the second quarter and remained on the sideline for a few minutes before returning in the third quarter with a black wrap on his elbow.

The Patriots also practiced without safety Steve Gregory, defensive end Trevor Scott, running back Brandon Bolden, linebacker Tracy White and cornerback Ras-I Dowling. Scott was also out for the first time this season.

Gregory, Bolden, White and Dowling were also absent during yesterday’s walkthrough, which isn’t a good sign for their availability in Sunday’s game. Scott and Dowling were injured Sunday, too. White walked through the locker room today without a walking boot on his foot, so he has progressed.

Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who can’t play until Week 10 because he’s on short-term injured reserve, practiced in shells for the first time.

Sounds more cautionary.

Amendola back spells doom for the safeties and LBs covering the slot

Danny is a poor man's Welker but he might be the most dangerous slot receiver the team will see all season.

He might put 150 yds up against this scrubendary

The Rams will put up 400+ yards of offense if the pass rush remains as stagnant as it was against the Jets, you give Bradford time and he'll kill ya.

I don't worry about players missing one practice. If they miss the next one, then we can talk. The second practice of the week is usually offense focused. Mayo and Dowling could be given a precautionary day off.

For what it's worth Mike Rodak says that Brandon Lloyd was added to the injury report too, as limited (knee).

Twitter @Nick_Underhill

Brace, Chung, Edelman, Gronk, Hernandez, Hightower, Lloyd, Mankins, McDonald, Moore, Vollmer, Welker were limited. Love was full.

Jeff Howe says Mayo's absence was 'a mix of colds and stomach bugs'.

'Been going around for two weeks. The illness issue in the Patriots' locker room started before the Seattle trip, and it's still a problem, obviously.'

He's limited in practice recovering from a separated shoulder.

Given that their bye is next week, I suspect they'll play it safe and keep Amendola out of this game.

I'm not yet, but if Dowling washes out be sure to remind everyone that you called it here so you can get full credit.

I'd rather he didn't, and people can come back here and laugh at me for suggesting otherwise.

If for whatever reason Mayo can't play, wouldn't Spikes just go back to his natural position of MLB? Or is Mayo playing wide now?

i just want this team healthy...

Mayo was back at practice today although whether he was limited won't be known until the report comes out. Development worth watching is that Hernandez who was on the bike during practice yesterday was not in attendance at least for the media portion today. Gregory, White, Scott, Bolden and Dowling were also not in attendance. Sweats and shells were the order of the day. Guess we will know who won't be active when we see who travels.

Not a whole lot of guesswork to figuring out who will be inactive for Sunday's game.

We might be seeing Edelman in the secondary this weekend

The injury bug has not been kind this year. :nooo:

Does Brandon Lloyd have a different injury every week?

Anybody else getting a bad vibe off of Hernandez's injuries?

There's this small alarm going off in the back of my mind telling me this kid might not be able to survive the NFL and that this is going to end up being a bad contract.

I try to ignore it, though.

No. He's tough as nails. We all saw the roll-up on his ankle by Edelman. A tough injury. Taking this week off gives him 2-1/2 weeks off to get the ankle under control for the 2nd half.

Don't worry; you were right the first time. Glas-IR Dowling is now officially a Bust.
