If you're not being facetious here, you have some important things to learn about acupuncture and Pilates.

Yep, guys just come to the weight room and just do bench press, shoulder press, Lats, and don't bother about lower body and core. They are the most important really. Support first I thought.

Absolutely. The core components I've always focused on have been the core, gluts and legs. It's the same mentality when you construct a building; build a solid foundation and move up.

There's generally 3 trendsetting sports when it comes to STC that people imitate, those being the English Premier League, NFL and Track & Field.

Interesting comments indeed. Pulls away from the star mentality and helps you to see players as people doesn't it.

Absolutely. I can't tell you how many people I'd watch hitting the weights and getting the Michelin man look with their upper body while neglecting the real key areas of body, only to get their ass kicked by people with strong legs and butts. This was true in hockey, football, and basketball (post play).
 
Pilates was invented as boxer training.

Acupuncture doesn't seem to have any effect aside from placebo but at least it is harmless.
 
Pretty crazy what these guys put themselves through to give us some entertainment on Sunday afternoons. I hope Kris gets himself healthy and leads a some what normal life.

One of the secrets to Kevin Faulks long term success, hes being doing core training for awhile.

:confused: Acupuncture works. Just because it hasn't been quantified by traditional science doesn't relegate it to "placebo." I have a very bright doctor friend, a neurologist, who doesn't understand it but endorses it. I doubt the Patriots would spend time with it if it didn't produce tangible results.

As Jenkins says, our approach to recovery is highly specialized and comprehensive- this would show you why we are more willing than most teams to pick players with a history of injuries (e.g., Dowling) because the program here is much better than that of pretty much most of the colleges, so certain players who never were able to get onto the field might do so as a result of being here.

Of course, following the program is another thing...

It actually HAS been quantified by proven scientific methods, in numerous clinical trials, and shown time and time again to not work better than placebo.

Sometimes placebos do work very well if accompanied by a good bedside manner and a confidence in a postive outcome. So go right ahead and do acupunture, throw salt over your shoulder, and sacrifice a first born goat. They are equivalently effective.

Doctors and hospitals hand out pain killers like Vicodin and Percocet like candy, it's usually the first and only thing doctors give for pain. While they mask pain(they don't heal it) they also tie muscles up in knots which is why they usually will perscribe a muscle relaxer with them. But afterwards these medications will leave the muscles in the affected area in a hard lump.

Acupuncture leaves the pain a little longer, but the massage of the muscles hurt area actually helps it heal, and is in the long run much healthier.
 
the consensus of the best clinical studies on acupuncture show that there is no specific effect of sticking needles into acupuncture points. Choosing random points works just as well, as does poking the skin with toothpicks rather than penetrating the skin with a needle to elicit the alleged “de qi”. The most parsimonious interpretation of the evidence is that the needles (i.e. acupuncture itself) are superfluous — any perceived benefit comes from the therapeutic interaction.

This has been directly studied, and the evidence suggests that the way to maximize the subjective effects from the ritual of acupuncture is to enhance the interaction with the practitioner, and has nothing to do with the acupuncture itself. Acupuncture is a clear example of selling a specific procedure based entirely on non-specific effects from the therapeutic interaction — a good bedside manner and some hopeful encouragement.

That was a brutally honest and revealing interview. Respect to Jenkins, always worried about when we played against him, seems like a smart dude. Hope he's able to overcome the injuries and pain.
