Markell Carter?

It's pretty fascinating, but Carter has basically everything that Bill looks for in a base 3-4 OLB. He's tall (6' 4 3/8"), has solid size (252) with room to grow, runs 4.7 in the 40, is explosive (35" vert, 10'1" broad jump), has long arms (34.5"), put up a lot of TFLs in college (19), and has experience dropping into coverage.

It's not going to be this year, but Carter is going to get some serious playing time in a year or two.

The same thing was said about Crable, who was a 3rd rounder -- not a 6th rounder.

Crable is tall at 6'5", has solid size at 245 with room to grow especially in the lower half, runs a 4.6 forty, is explosive and has long arms. He had 28.5 TFLs in 2007 ALONE and had over 40 TFLs in his career. Had experience at OLB and had experience dropping into coverage. Played in a major conference.

Hopefully Carter works out, but what are the realistic chances?

much like Lee Smith--- I do LOVE Carter's measurables

Both Guys physically fit into their given positions:)

Crable was also made out of glass:bricks:

Markell Carter, Oscar Lua, Ryan Claridge, Jeremy Mincey, Jermaine Cunningham, Eric Moore, Eric Alexander, Pierre Woods, Shawn Crable, Tyrone McKenzie....

I would venture that each of these guys, at one point either when they drafted/signed him, was going to be "the answer" according to patsfans.com forumites.........
you've given up on cunningham and moore already?

Some people look up, others keep their heads down, focusing on bird poop instead of sunshine.

Most fans look to see how acquisitions can help the team. They are called homers by those to whom all younger players are unproven and all older players have lost a step, and who find reasons why we are doomed.

That's very poetic, Space. I like it.

The guy that you're referring to is a Jets fan, hence being dumb and trying to incite BS.

Well Crable was a third round pick who looks the part.

If Carter is as good as Woods we should all be thrilled; if he's any better we should be amazed. He's a 6th round pick so it's unlikely that he's even on the team in two years.

When Crable was IRed for the first time, I became skeptical. When he was IRed for the second time, I assumed that his NFL career was effectively over. The list of players who have contributed after being IRed for their entire rookie seasons is very, very small.

I agree with you re: Carter and Woods, though. I always liked Woods as a player, and wish that people could have appreciated him for what he was--an UDFA who was great on ST, became a viable enough rotational LB, and could even start without being a gaping weak spot on D. If Carter can evolve into that, then that's a well-spent 6th rounder.

Do you guys think Belichick had something up his sleeve with this pick?
Guy looks fast from video highlights. He was running over people in D1. Granted it was a crappy conference...

Think TBC. A low risk prospect, but with the athletic and physical measurables that the Pats like at OLB for their defense. He will probably take a while to develop and has to make an impact on special teams to stick on the roster. After that who knows, it's up to him whether he can impress enough to earn more PT.

Personally I thought Claridge would be a factor....

I can say with some certainty that most people HOPED that one of those players would contribute. I don't remember anyone saying that any one of those guys would be "THE" answer.

However, I think it's pretty stupid to include Jermaine Cunningham in that group since he was just a rookie last year. I also think it's stupid to include Eric Moore since he wasn't drafted by the Pats.

I have not seen anything that says that Carter has "chicken legs" the way that Crable did.. And that was the one area people had issues with when he came out.. And that is where he had injury issues..

Mark Sanchez, Brett Farve, Chad Pennington, Brooks Bollinger, Vinny Testaverde, Ray Lucas, Neil O'Donnell, Frank Reich, Boomer Esiason, Browning Nagle, Ken O'Brien, Pat Ryan, Richard Todd, Al Woodall, Bob Davis, etc..

Were all "the answer" according to Jet fans. Looks like you guys are shooting 0 for 20 something.

Crable also had attitude and work ethic problems that Carter supposedly doesn't.
