OT: I hate the 2-3-2

Is the NBA the only league that uses it?

I don't either. If the team with HCA drops one of the first two, it swings HCA to the other team in an extreme way. Not sure why they do this for the Finals alone, as I have no problem with the 2-2-1-1-1 during the rest of the playoffs. It just seems to make little sense to switch it up for the most important series of them all in the NBA.

That's right, the switch... The travel argument just doesn't cut it anymore, either, imo. Not only for this series, where Dallas/Miami isn't the most arduous flight. But these guys now fly on chartered jets, and there's plenty of time between games. It just isn't that big a difference between a 3-hr flight and a 6-hr flight when you're essentially flying private, you have time off, and both teams are doing it.

The real reason is $. No surprise there, but still backwards. There's how much money involved in the NBA (and MLB), and this is the area where they decide to save money?

Okay ... can the heat gag again .... one could only hope. :D

I actually think HCA never swings the (original) road team's way. Look at the C's last year - winning 3 games in a row against this level of competition is damn near impossible. So scheduling 3 straight home games for a team is almost worthless. They probably aren't going to win all 3.

It's a silly format either way, the 2-2-1-1-1 makes a lot more sense.

Jason Kidd should be tonite's MVP...for the Heat. Pathetic, lazy D. Sloppy, hero passes. JJ Barea is not playing any better, so the Mavs are in trouble at that spot.

Once again, it's taken Marion's inexplicably good play to keep them hanging around.

That flop by Wade was pretty disgraceful. Man I am sick of watching Wade & Lebron turn to the ref everytime they miss a shot. Honestly, Kontra, I don't know how you root for those two guys. I swear to god, if they wore green, I just wouldn't turn on the TV during NBA season.

Miami was on the tough end of some ridiculously soft fouls tonight. It re-emphasizes the point that the NBA appears to be rigged in some sense of the manner.

Interesting that the back court violation three at the end of the first quarter which should have been waived off ended up being the scoring difference between Dallas winning and losing despite Dirk missing the game tying score.

Good series to watch thus far.

Pierce? ( 10 char)

Are you serious? I'll agree Pierce is the biggest flopper on the Celts, without question, but they are not in the league of James and Wade. Pierce might turn to a ref once or twice a game, James and Wade probably do it combined 25 times a game, no exaggeration. Literally every missed FG - without fail - results in a staredown of the ref.

I hate to lay credence to anything Donaghy is saying since the man seems 100% certifiable (which certainly says something about NBA refs, doesn't it) - but his statement that Mark Cuban's vocal nature is going to prevent this series from being swayed too far in Miami's favor is ringing true.

But, honestly, the Heat were not screwed by the refs last nite. There were some inept calls that went against but overall it was just one of the first fairly called games that Miami was involved with, so it seemed they were screwed. Again, this is the most physical team in the league. Their defenders cause the most contact, on the ball, off the ball, closing out, and rebounding. But because they have King James and Dwayne Wade on their squad, they rarely get called for it.

Miami was absolutely hacking the sh*t out of Dallas once again last nite, only difference was they got called for it more. Frankly, Dallas was on the end of a boatload of absurd calls themselves (Chandler getting called for a key loose ball foul when Anthony had his arm locked up into his??). These officials are so pathetic on both ends that it deters from the epicness of this series so far. And I still truly believe no one has explained traveling to Lebron James. I really couldn't hate him as a player any further, and his nightly efforts to destroy the game of basketball and its rules.

And Dallas didn't lose b/c of Dirk on the last play - his effort was the reason they were in the game at the end. Dallas lost b/c they let up too many times on defense. They have to be relentless against these Heat. And they are, 98% of the time. But Jason Kidd, especially, is prone to some soft defense. Up 3, Wade had the ball with 8 seconds left on the shot clock and stood at the perimeter, holding the ball. If Jason Kidd didn't realize that Wade was going to hoist a 3, he should retire right now. The idiot gives Wade 4 feet of space to create a shot and nail a game-changing 3.

I blame that loss on Kidd. It really shows you how awful these announcers are when Mark Jackson chimes in to give Kidd kudos for his defense. Are you kidding me (no pun intended)?? Kidd's defense was pathetic. It took amazing help defense from Chandler all night - who was a beast - to keep Wade from dropping 50 out there. Kidd could've been replaced with a mannequin and I don't think Wade would've had any more success.

Kidd's soft rotations, lazy efforts to close out, and just terrible one-on-one defense on the perimeter and when Wade penetrates could cost Dallas this series. He's the only guy on Dallas who doesn't look like he's absolutely busting his balls out there every play.

Unfortunately, Barea has been pretty crappy - on both ends - too.

That acting by LeBron at the end of the first was disgraceful. Utterly disgraceful. WTF were the refs watching?

I wasn't comparing the # of times he does it versus them doing it, just thought it was a fitting description of him.

Series tied 2 - 2 ... Miami does not know how to close out games ... :p:p:p

Where was LeChoke down the stretch :confused2:

Too busy trying to work out and arguing with the referees wondering why it's a turnover when he travels.

Fair enough - I agree Pierce's flopping and exaggeration is not becoming. But by no means is it in the league of those two dbags down in Miami.

I'll give Wade credit though, man is he a beast. Epic performance again, he is completely stealing the spotlight from Lebron who was just invisible tonite and made many bad plays. Lebron's ballhandling seems to even be deteriorating further. I think he could've been called for at least two more travels tonite.

Tyson Chandler is the man. I wish this guy were a Celtic. What a great effort. It is not a cliche with this guy that he does the dirty work. He really takes a beating on both ends and comes back for more. Makes up for a few soft defenders on that team.

This is turning into one of the best Finals in recent memory. Obviously, as a C's fan, the last two series involving them were entertaining (and satisfying and heartbreaking respectively), but the pure entertainment value of these games is very high itself.

The last two games especially have been just been downright epic, and I am glad to see the refs are letting them play a little more, and becoming less an issue. Maybe Stern has met his match and is afraid of Cuban going off again. Stern's probably just happy to see a long series, which is going to happen with these two squaring off.

I'd love to see Dallas win the next two, but I wouldn't mind seeing this go seven just so it can go down amongst the best series of all time.

That's the $100M question. Dallas went into the zone and took Wade out of the game. A lot of times, LeBron was holding the ball at the top of the key with only one man in front of him. Like Derrick Rose in the ECF, LeBron does not seem to be ready for the moment. He's passing up good looks and opportunities to take it to the hole when he shouldn't be. He's also taking some REALLY bad shots. The bottom line is that the Heat have to play better defense on Dallas' role players. I expected a surge out of them last night to back up all the talking that they had been doing on top of shutting up all of the people that talked bad about them. That surge is over. I expect Miami (who very well could have won this game if not for a bobbled inbounds pass) to come out and hold Dallas' role players to a worse shooting percentage in Game 5.
