I could live with this.

From a general standpoint, though, it would help immensely if you added the date that you do these, or a version #, or something, so that we can tell which ones are the newest.

Not a fan of Costanzo's at 17. From his performance the past season and at the senior bowl, it seems that he may not be a LT in the NFL based on his strength and footwork. At 17, if the Pats go oline, then it better be for a potential left tackle like Sherrod, or Tyron Smith because there seem to be some candidates at 28 and 33 like Solder, Carimi, and Ijalana. In my opinion, a defensive pick like Watt, Aldon Smith, and Jordan would offer more value here because it would fit BB's comment after drafting Watson that there are only so many guys who are big, strong, and fast.

Houston would be okay at 28 although I question his ability to set an edge effectively. He does seem to be effective at pass rushing though. It is possible that he wouldn't even be available here if he works out well at the combine. There seem to be guys like Brooks Reed in the 2nd/3rd round range who may be a better overall fit. I think Wilkerson, Heyward, or Watkins would be better picks here.

I do not like Torrey Smith at all. He has a better chance to be a Heyward-Bey clone than a Mike Wallace clone. He doesn't run every route well like the coaches seem to expect in a WR. Plus he is going to shoot up draft boards after he shows off his blazing straight-line speed at the combine. The only WR's (besides Green) I like for the Pats in the first two rounds are Jones, Young, Baldwin, and Hankerson.

It bis all conjecture and to each poster as to who they like Cousin.
I think #17 is too early for Costonzo.
I don't see the love for Houston. He is not on my top five OLB.
Too early for Smith and Jarvis Jenkins has the JAG smell to him.


I am of the opinion of Watt DE who is disruptive at @17 (Aldon Smith is a freak but is a gamble).

I still see the Pats uniform on Ingrim at #28 because he might be BPA. I remember Curtis Martin had a negative Senior year.

I see Danny Watkins G at #33 as the most Pro ready O Lineman in this Draft and we have issues with Mankins and Neal.

I see Brooks Reed at #60 as the OLB choice. He has a variety of rush moves. He is relentless and a spark plug.

I see James Carpenter as an outstanding option at #74. He was all SEC and 27 starts at LT. Way under the radar. Saban will talk to BB.

I like a typical BB move at #92 and that would be Greg Romeus form Pitt at 6'6" and 268 lbs as our "elephant" OLB. Had disc and ACL surgery his Sr. year. Would have been a top five in 2009. All Big East and Big East player of the year. He is a first round value of speed, strength and agility. Think of him as a way more talented Adalius Thomas that actually gives a crap. Steal of the Draft!!!

In the fourth I like tough guy C/G John Moffitt. He is much bigger than Koppen and can work in and yet still play G.

In the fifth I like Shiloh Keo S from Idaho. The best defensive player in the Shrine game. Also is a punt returner and tough ST kid. At 6' 223lbs he has great size. A thumper.

In the sixth I go CB because we have never drafted a good WR since Stanley Morgan and Branch we see, is damaged goods (still decent but struggled to separate). I see a Trade or FA for a WR to take Tates place. I go Richard Sherman CB Stanford. A 6'2" CB has advantages and he played WR for Luck as well. He is raw but understands the passing game.

My biggest problem is with #33. I also think Jenkins at #60 is a little too early.

This is the best mock draft I’ve seen for the Pats at NE Patriots Draft. I’d prefer Anthony Costanzo at #33 but Sherrod is supposed to have greater upside so can’t truly object to selection.

17. Aldon Smith, DE/OLB, Missouri - One of the best pure pass-rushers in the draft, think Willie McGinst.

28. Muhammad Wilkerson, DL, Temple - 5-technique DE who is moving up draft boards.

33. Derek Sherrod, OT, Miss State – top 5-6 T are all closely bunched.

60. John Moffitt, OG/C, Wisconsin – my binky can play both guard and center. :singing:

I agree about Watt. From the little Ive seen of him (basically youtube clips) he seems to come of the snap really fast. I keep thinking the word "explosive" when I think of Watt. I cant remember the last time we had an D lineman who was explosive. Alot of people are mention Wilkerson, Liuget and Heyward in their mocks. But I think the Pats needs more then a strong body at DE, we need someone who can beat the OT, rather then control him. I like your Brooks Reed pick too. I would like to see the Pats do in this draft what they did with the TE's last year. A couple of OLB somewhere between rounds 2-4. Reed/KJ Wright/Jeremey Beal. Any 2 of those would be nice.

Im waiting til after the combine before I out together my first mock, but right now Im thinking:

17 -DE Watt
28 - OT Carimi
33 - C/G Pouncy
60 - OLB Reed
74 - RB Daniel Thomas
94 - OLB KJ Wright

Something like that. The guy who may swing my mock is Kerrigan. If he has a good combine and shows he is quicker then most people think, I may have to find a way to get him at the top.

Excellent effort on the mock. You have addressed some key positions with this mock.

Jenkins is a very interersting option at #60. I wonder how much he benefited from playing next to Sap and Bowers for the past several years. But the tape says he can stack and shed which is what we are basically asking our DEs to do. He could be a player BB over drafts just because of the limited number of 3-4 DEs in this draft.

Jenkins is a very interersting option at #60. I wonder how much he benefited from playing next to Sap and Bowers for the past several years. Or you could reverse it and wonder how much Bowers and Sapp benefitted from having Jenkins on their team? To me he is an ideal fit in this system. 60 is too early but 92 is too late. If they shock me and don't take one of these high caliber DE's early, I could see them drafting Jenkins at 74. Lunch pail kid who reminds me a lot of Gerard Warren. Not exactly what we need right now but he would provide depth and a possible future replacement for Warren. His versatility of playing DE,DT and NT would certainly come in handy on this team.

I definately see where you are coming from that BB may overvalue him with a 2nd rounder. Then again that may be a good thing like Vollmer in the 2nd a couple of drafts ago? We'll find out.
